The Clermont County Institute opens in Williamsburg with 60 plus teachers welcomed by a scout party and local hosts. Speakers include L. E. York and J. T. Begg discussing reading, geography, and development methods as students tour, view moving pictures, and attend concerts and ball games.

Disgrace to County Girls Put in Reform School

Mrs. Spencer filed affidavits against Oney and Anna McMullen of Goshen township. Sheriff Williams and Mrs. Spencer brought the girls before Judge Joseph on a delinquency charge. The court ordered the sisters sent to the Delaware reform school. Father arrested on incest after their testimony, to await grand jury binding. The girls, ages 18 and 15, arrived in Batavia barefoot and poorly clad.

About 60 Westwood Boy Scouts attended a camp at Branch Hill on Monday afternoon. The group is described as bright and clean.

A lively group of Norris summer boarders, mostly ladies, rode three wagons on a Friday night hayride. They drew the town’s attention as they returned, singing merrily and sounding their horns.

Unanimous Support for Pike Improvement to Mt Carmel

County commissioners in special session on Thursday received petitions circulated Monday to secure fifty one percent of abutting property holders for the proposed improvement. The petitions were forwarded to Columbus for further consideration and bids are expected after the surveyor’s estimate.

Williamsburg tops Pekin in extra innings pitcher duel

In a tightly played game Williamsburg defeats Pekin in 12 innings. McAfee and Lane matched zeroes until the bottom of the 9th when Williamsburg scored their first run and the winning run came in the 12th on a two base hit and an error. Both teams made superb plays and many nice stops.

Man Shoots Self at Bethel Flour Mills Boarding House

A. M. Kendall, 45, engineer at Bethel flour mills, shot himself in the heart at his boarding house last Friday at about 5:30 p.m. He had shown signs of distress recently, but no clear motive was found. Coroner Parkhiser led an inquest, returning a verdict of death by his own action. He was buried Sunday near Georgetown.

Burglar Breaks In At Paul M. Rapp Groc Store

Early Friday morning around 4 30 Paul M Rapp found a side window opened and shutters raised at his grocery store. The thief entered through the window and fled by the same exit leaving paper sacks in a nearby yard. A clue is being pursued and a suspect may be named soon.

The Highland Park Chautauqua ended last Sunday night after eight days of programs. Speakers were fluent and well chosen, with audience praise for management. Music stood high and attendance stayed solid given the travel distance. The Alaska lecture Saturday night drew much appreciation as a personal experience account.

Huffman Sent to State Farm as Assistant Superintendent

Isaac Huffman, serving time for accepting a bribe while a senator, was moved from a prison cell to a State farm at Morgan's Station Orient in Piqua County as assistant superintendent. He is restricted to the farm but free from surveillance with better conditions than the 6 by 4 cell, and it is unclear what salary he will receive.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Observed at Brank Home

On August 10 Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Brank celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with children grandchildren and other relatives gathering at their home. A noon dinner followed by conversation and singing marked the occasion before guests departed wishing many returns of the anniversary. They live just above town.
