A junior from Batavia High prepares for the Style Show at the Pair fairgrounds following a prior win at the State Fair Style Show. The Typical Four-H Club member aims to replicate success this year.
The Clermont County Fair reaches its 99th year with grounds upgraded including a new 40 by 96 foot steel building and other renovations costing about 10000 dollars. The fair opens next Wednesday with acts by Ward Beams Daredevils and a full schedule of livestock judging drafts and horse shows through Saturday. Grand Parade set for 11 a m features Bethel Williamsburg and New Richmond high school bands along with 4 H groups and Scouts.
Theodore Davis, blind, will demonstrate broom making at a four day display under the grandstand. Sponsored by the Batavian Rotary Club and the Clermont Courier, the exhibit aims to sell his handmade brooms in Clermont and surrounding counties. Davis operates a Mt. Carmel shop and has state training support to run his business.
A committee recommends members for Clermont County's Selective Service Board. Milford resident Carl Bush and A. F. Kayser of Moscow join Bethel’s A. Kayser and other nominees. Registration for 18 to 25 year olds runs Aug 30 to Sep 18, with one local board awaiting state approval and a Batavia location yet to be announced.
The Newtonsville Volunteer Fire Department schedules a Labor Day gala at the Newtonsville Community School grounds with a fish or chicken dinner, games, rides, and a fish pond. Fire Marshal to dedicate the new community building and firehouse under construction, with Howard Day as Community Fire Department board president.
The Grand Parade at the County Fair will be staged at 11 a m on Saturday. Entries last year included the Williams Corner Willing Workers float led by Mrs Leonard Scott and the Future Farmers of Afton with advisor Paul Lytle. The parade features school bands premium livestock farm equipment and youth organization floats like the 4 H end Future Parmert.
Mr and Mrs Seimus Burger of Perintown will represent Clermont County at the Ohio State Fair as a Typical Farm Family. They attend Typical Farm Family Day on Aug 21 and may win state prizes including trips to Niagara Falls and New York City. Pomona Grange of Milford sponsors the Berger family.
Village officials announce completion of parking sign installation and enforcement under the new ordinance. Main Street has an eight hour limit from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., other streets eighteen hours. main street spaces one hour. east Market Street near the Court House and Post Office thirty minutes.
Martha Olsen of Route 1 Batavia loses control while passing on Route 14 near Glen Este. Her car crashes into a stone pillar, injuring her arm. Deputy Marvin Bisanta investigated the Tuesday evening accident.
Cecil Dozier son of Mr and Mrs Lafe Dozier of Goshen has recently arrived at the Ninth Infantry Division Training Center at Fort Dix New Jersey.
Young ladies from Clermont County prepare for a style show at the Fair next Saturday afternoon. Four H clubs total 26 may be represented in the event held in the 4 H building. The Water Administration will send letters to property owners along State Route 125 from Mt. Holly to Tabasco and Mt. Carmel asking approval of a proposed water district costing about 750000. Front-foot assessments run about 4.26, with bonds over 15 years. Tom Dix leads the committee. surveys and meetings at Amelia school guide the project.
Calvin and Donna McCullough appeared before Mayor A C Munden in Batavia for a hearing on an altercation at Horns y s Cafe on Route 28 last month. The incident ended with the McCullough car wreck and a guardrail impact. Mrs McCullough was dismissed and Calvin McCullough was fined fifty dollars.
Miss Sue Speidel daughter of Mrs Florence Ashburn has announced her engagement to Alonzo Garner. They plan to marry September 10 and reside in Batavia. Speidel served as a First Lieutenant in the WAC during World War II while Garner held rank of captain in the Engineering Corps.
Mrs Helen Tenwilleger of Ter race Park will judge all entries. After Owens ville show, eight to ten county girls will advance to the State Pair in Columbus to compete. entrants must be over 16 and earn an A in dressmaking.
