Clermont County Fair Opens Next Wednesday Under New Improvements

The Clermont County Fair reaches its 99th year with grounds upgraded including a new 40 by 96 foot steel building and other renovations costing about 10000 dollars. The fair opens next Wednesday with acts by Ward Beams Daredevils and a full schedule of livestock judging drafts and horse shows through Saturday. Grand Parade set for 11 a m features Bethel Williamsburg and New Richmond high school bands along with 4 H groups and Scouts.

Blind Broom Maker Demonstrates At County Fair Booth

Theodore Davis, blind, will demonstrate broom making at a four day display under the grandstand. Sponsored by the Batavian Rotary Club and the Clermont Courier, the exhibit aims to sell his handmade brooms in Clermont and surrounding counties. Davis operates a Mt. Carmel shop and has state training support to run his business.

Recommendations Set for Clermont County Draft Board

A committee recommends members for Clermont County's Selective Service Board. Milford resident Carl Bush and A. F. Kayser of Moscow join Bethel’s A. Kayser and other nominees. Registration for 18 to 25 year olds runs Aug 30 to Sep 18, with one local board awaiting state approval and a Batavia location yet to be announced.

Grand Parade at the County Fair Featured Attraction

The Grand Parade at the County Fair will be staged at 11 a m on Saturday. Entries last year included the Williams Corner Willing Workers float led by Mrs Leonard Scott and the Future Farmers of Afton with advisor Paul Lytle. The parade features school bands premium livestock farm equipment and youth organization floats like the 4 H end Future Parmert.

McCulloughs Appeal Charge At Batavia Hearing

Calvin and Donna McCullough appeared before Mayor A C Munden in Batavia for a hearing on an altercation at Horns y s Cafe on Route 28 last month. The incident ended with the McCullough car wreck and a guardrail impact. Mrs McCullough was dismissed and Calvin McCullough was fined fifty dollars.

Engagement announced for Sue Speidel and Alonzo Garner

Miss Sue Speidel daughter of Mrs Florence Ashburn has announced her engagement to Alonzo Garner. They plan to marry September 10 and reside in Batavia. Speidel served as a First Lieutenant in the WAC during World War II while Garner held rank of captain in the Engineering Corps.
