Ed D Schorr announces Hoover to deliver acceptance speech by radio at 9 P M EST on August 11. Precinct committeemen urged to host radio parties inviting residents to discuss national policies and hear the speech, with many parties expected across the county.
The Ohio Republican Caravan, a five day statewide march, began last Monday with fifteen top candidates meeting County Central Committees in all 22 districts. Participants include David Ingalls and Earl Johnston, L. T. Palmer, George Bender, L. B. Palmer, Charles H. Lewis, Gilbert Bettman, Dan Marshall, Edward T. Matthias, and others. The tour started at Painesville, visits Fremont, Dayton, Cincinnati, Portsmouth, and ends with a Dayton radio event. Clermont County officials are urged to attend the Portsmouth meeting on Friday August 12.
O E S at Goshen district 81 hosts bi centennial celebration in Goshen School Auditorium on Wednesday August 17 at 8 p m Margaret Wenzel of Moscow presides. Worthy Grand Matron Olive Williams and Grand Conductress Lydia Crawford will attend. Chapters to notify Anna Clark Coraddale of numbers. This meeting replaces the annual picnic with plans to entertain a large crowd.
The Carthage Fair runs this week with a vast exhibit and ample beer horses on display. A weather friendly week could bring a record crowd to Clermont County for free shows and abundant stock on the grounds.
County commissioners met in special session on August 1 and approved numerous bills. Items include labor payments for Sam Ausman and Clyde Danberry, use of car for H R Ayer, stone and gravel for road work, payrolls for John Carter and others, gas and supplies from Citizens Garage and Columbus B B Co, inquest fee for J S Corliss, and various inspector and surveyor costs. Cedron road graded and a proposed Branch Hill-Loveland road survey ordered.
Strong Argument E A Fleming, chief of the Ohio Division of Markets, urges statewide regulation of itinerant truckers. He cites ruined markets for producers and unfair competition from trucks that move inferior apples at low prices, noting dishonest packing and tax noncompliance as concerns.
The Clermont County Fair is one week away with strong exhibits races and a grand stock parade. The Ohio State Fair Boys Band will perform at the fair and statewide concerts with radio broadcasts. Local selections include Donald Ansteadt John Hugo Virgil Les Warren Wilke and Hugh Lanham of Batavia Felicity.
4 H leaders anticipate a large county delegation to statewide contests at the Ohio State Fair. County eliminations at the Clermont County Fair on Aug 18 include individual and team demonstrations, clothing show, health exams, and a parade. Winners earn trips to the State Fair. exhibits and livestock displays fill space under the grandstand and in the livestock barns.
A statement declares there is no vacancy and denies being an applicant for the Batavia post office. It notes Post Master F. A. Brown has been ill but is improving.
Red Cross meeting set for Friday August 12 at 7 p m in Pt Pleasant invites all who take part in charity work. All townships requested to be represented. Refreshments will be provided.
The 48rd annual celebration and homecoming of Washington and joining townships will be held at Preston's Grove Saturday August 20. Good music and speaking. Refreshments served by Calvary Ladies Aid. Jos. Sargent president Moscow Kenneth Henson secretary.
The Batavia Concert Band performs Thursday at 8 in the town hall lawn with ample seating. Batavia High School Band joins from county schools for a Nichols Park concert Saturday at 8 with Prof. Smith directing and a cordial invitation to the public.
The Batavia Junior Garden Club placed a box of blooming flowers in the Court House Yard as a sample of their work. The group led by Mrs. J. M. Wiseman is progressing nicely and showing keen interest in their chosen activity.
In a 12 inning battle last Sunday Williamsburg defeated Batavia 6 to 5 on home turf. Rae Talley tied it for Batavia in the 12th. Chaddock and Bailey each pitched well for their teams. Next Sunday Williamsburg visits Batavia for the second game of a three game series. Mr. H F Pearson aged 81 died at his Batavia home after weeks of illness. Funeral from the residence August 6 with burial at Glendale. widow Mrs. Alice Pearson survives.
Trustees of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation petition Governor White and the Republican convention for a 40 percent cap on real estate taxes and for amended delinquent tax laws. They propose county tax certificates at 8 percent tax free, first lien on farms, purchasable by any buyer, allowing owners to redeem with face value plus 8 percent. They argue the plan reduces state burden, speeds revenue, and stabilizes local government.
The Wide Awake Club of New Tonsville held a July 18 weiner roast at Stonelick Creek with a mile hike and fire, then discussed the 4-H Camp at Camp Ross. The next meeting was July 27 at Newtonsville School House. Reporter Francis Bezold. East Hill Farm Club met August 4 with 13 members and one guest, sharing papers on canning, cooking, and Sunday afternoons. Meeting adjourned to September with Mrs. Cover. Ethel Davidson, reporter. Batavia Junior Garden Club met August 4 at Mrs Wiseman on 19 members, working on record books and arranging flowers. The next day a community flower box was erected in the courthouse yard.
Ohio State Junior Fair in Columbus from August 29 to September 3 will feature thousands of posters by Ohio boys and girls. Entry names include Dick Beckler Amelia Alber Boone Neville Margaret Boone Neville Dorothy Boring Goshen Marjorie Cleaver Felicity Ralph Cleaver Felicity Jane Furman Batavia Robbie Hornback Williamsburg Wayne Liming Moscow Sarah Pence Amelia Willard Rich Loveland Lee Palan New Richmond Clifford Jackson Newtonsville Louis Sipple Moscow Bud Parks Batavia Walter Mayer Batavia Mary Cribbet Williamsburg. Posters will compete with others from across Ohio for prizes.
A Goshen Ohio Labor Day event on September 6 invites all born, lived, visited, or attended in the township to Goshen September 5 1982 to meet relatives and friends. A short program and dinner by the P T A at the Auditorium for 50 cents per plate are planned with F B Bishop as chairman and Nonnie Irwin as secretary.
On Monday morning August 8 Rev. L G Ludwick joined Milt A Meguire and Mrs Marilda Strattner of Route Mo 6 Batavia in marriage. Witnesses included the groom's Mt Washington parents as best wishes roll in. Think It Over the first step toward happiness is to determine to be happy.
