Deed Filing Up Mortgages Down in July Report

William Shebesta, county recorder, reports 293 deeds filed in July, up from 266 in 1961, while mortgages fell to 277 for $3,213,207 from 322 for $3,298,486 last year. Fees totaled $2,710.25, slightly above $2,626.51 in 1961.

Coroner Gruber's Home Burglary Reported in Bethel

The home of Dr. A A Gruber and his wife on Pethel Concord Road Bethel was burglarized Saturday night between 7 30 and 9 30 pm. A mink stole fur hat four watches cuff links and other jewelry and about 1600 in cash were taken. Entry was through the garage and loot carried away in a pillowcase. Dr Gruber is Clermont County coroner.

Sign Up Early for Clermont Northeastern Students

Cler mont Northeastern students planning to attend next year must sign up before school starts. Registration is Tuesday and Wednesday August 14 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children must be six by November 8 1962 and bring birth certificates and immunization records. Elementary pupils may register with Newtonsville principal Joseph James and Owensville principal Robert Hines. High school registration is with principal Guy Mallory. Teachers meeting is Tuesday September 4 and school opens September 5 for all day session.

Joseph Steele Jr the Goshen school board president submitted his resignation last Thursday after Judge Louis Schneider ordered Robert E Gower reinstated as school superintendent. Steele and three other board members had voted to dismiss Gower while two members voted to retain him. Reinstatement is delayed until the judge signs the court record entry, with the judge currently vacationing in Indiana.

Miami man killed in Rt 52 crash near Hamilton line

James Brookover, 29, of Miami Florida, died early Monday when his car struck a guard rail and bridge abutment on Route 52 west of New Richmond near the county line. He had been warned by a Ripley patrolman about a defective muffler and was later charged with reckless driving in Manchester where his brother resides.

Commissioners Set Hours During Fair

County commissioners will close the courthouse office for two and a half days during the County Pair fair. The office closes Thursday August 14 at noon for opening ceremonies and remains shut all day Friday and Saturday August 17 and 18.

Monday the county commissioners voted to change the name of Bach Road in Batavia and Union townships to Bach Buxton Road, effective immediately. The move affects addresses and mapping for residents and businesses along the stretch.

Mrs J W Freeman of New Richmond was chosen president of the Clermont County Federation of Women’s Clubs at the 62nd annual meeting held at the elementary school hosted by The Fortnightly Club of New Richmond. Her husband and son William participated. William led the music. Other officers include Lena Bess of Chile as vice president, Frank Summers of Batavia as secretary, Dora Schmitz of New Richmond as treasurer, and J R Neill as fourth district president serving as installing officer.

Clermont County Auditor J F Paschel announced the distribution of 11466 dollars and 55 cents in inheritance taxes collected from February 1 to July 31. Felicity led municipalities with 1152 dollars and 76 cents, followed by Batavia 727 dollars and 97 cents, Milford 404 dollars and 2 cents, New Richmond 292 dollars and 71 cents, and Williamsboro 178 dollars and 86 cents. The state received 4380 dollars and 62 cents. auditor and treasurer fees 802 dollars and 66 cents. tax commissioner salary 550 dollars. Union led townships with 884 dollars and 28 cents.
