Batavia Council Faces 15 819 Surfacing Financing

Batavia village council in special session weighed a state proposal to surface Main street and extend Fifth street with bituminous and concrete sections. They must fund 15 819 45 for storm and sanitary sewers and gain Health Board approval before state work begins, with plan revisions for sewer connections and tree removal plus mayoral consent. The Olive Branch Ladies Aid announced a roadside market and bake sale on Saturday August 12 with ice cream.

Ice Cream Social At Bantam Church Draws Crowd

Bantam Presbyterian Church netted about 30 dollars from a Sunday Ice Cream Social. A large crowd packed the church to watch the free showing of Jesus of Nazareth, presented by Mr. Blackburn, president of the Manchester Baking Co., for the 94th time this year.

Johnson Harlow Families Hold Annual Reunion at Woodland Park

About 125 people attended the Johnson Harlow reunion at Woodland Park near Newtonsville. The highlight was a softball game won 22 to 7 by the Johnsons. Officers chosen for next year include Allen Ashton president Charles Harlow vice president and Norman Jean Johnson secretary-treasurer. The gathering will convene again on the first Sunday in August.

The 4 H Club met at the Monterey school house on August 2 with pledge, roll call, and minutes read. Plans were made for a county fair booth and parade, a picnic at Blue Sky Park after the next meeting on August 7, and members worked on record books and projects.

Clermont County Chickens Thief Nabbed After Wide Theft Ring

Paul Croswell, 25, of Felicity, confessed to stealing about 600 chickens from Clermont and Brown county farms during June and July. Sheriff G. G. Auxier and Deputy Frank R. Perry traced loads to Croswell, who was arrested in Cincinnati with 14 more birds. Croswell signed a confession and was bound over to the Grand Jury on $2,000 bond.
