Election Day approaches with polls open 6 30 a m to 6 30 p m. Voters urged to cast ballots early. Clermont county shows unprecedented candidate totals with 70 Republicans and 53 Democrats vying for 27 nominations. Key races include State Representative County Auditor and County Commissioner contests.
Elaborate preparations by St. Louis church Owensville for the Annual Homecoming on Sunday August 12 at the Owensville Fair Grounds. A chicken dinner will be served to more than a thousand guests from noon to 8 pm priced 60 cents for adults and 25 cents for children, with many amusements planned.
Geo. A. Keen former Batavian dies at his daughter Mrs. Everett Shipp's Washington home aged 88. He served as ex sheriff of Clermont County and was a Mason and Eastern Star member buried at Union Cemetery with Masonic rites. Survived by two sons Will Arch Keen and daughter Mrs. Everett Shipp and brother Thos A Keen. Lottie Stagg Moore, Batavian native, dies in Washington and is buried from Moore Funeral Home with three Stagg brothers among survivors. Gilbert Arns of Bethel bound over to grand jury for malicious destruction of property on $200 bond, later released when father posted bond.

County Agricultural Agent E B Baugh announces the government will reopen tobacco signup giving non signers last winter a chance to join and avoid a thirty three and one third percent tax. Each signer must reduce base acreage and production by one third or one half and apply through listed committeemen or county office.
The State Highway client disclosed three projects in Clermont County: Williamsburg Bridge, 1.5 miles of A. P. Highway paving at Chile, and a new Bull Skin Creek bridge on the A. P. Highway at Rural. Start dates are not fixed but expected within two months. Governor White orders sidewalk and guardrail work on Route No. 50 from Perintown center to the school property.
Dr J. C. Fitzpatrick of Amelia receives membership in the 12th International Veterinary Congress to be held in New York City August 13 to 18. The 75 year old organization includes leaders from 66 countries and marks the first U S gathering in America. Part of the program will be aired by the U S Department of Agriculture Farm and Home radio, Tuesday August 14 and Thursday August 16 from 12:50 to 1:20 p m EST on the National Broadcast network.
The dedication of Batavia's new bridge will take place on August 18 at 2 p m rain or shine. Contractors will present their portion of the program while finishing touches like sodding painting shrubbery cleaning up and polishing near ends are completed. The bridge is finished and will be among Clermont counties finest.
Mr and Mrs John Wesley Thalman of 1612 North Sheridan Road Waukegan announce the marriage of their daughter Hope Scott Thalman to Charles Clinton Matteson son of Mr and Mrs Robert Matteson Joliet The wedding was held at the bride parents home last Wednesday Hope Thalman a 1981 University of Illinois graduate and Kappa Kappa Gamma member Charles Matteson Beloit College alumnus and Phi Kappa fraternity member The Thalmans were former Clermont residents.
A Republican rally is scheduled for Saturday night at Williamsburg School. Local activists invite supporters to attend and hear party speakers outline campaign priorities and organizing plans.
Dusty Miller a prominent Ohio Republican and newspaperman will be the principal speaker at a pre primary gathering in Williamsburg hosted by the Young Republican Club. Local and state candidates will be introduced as voters meet the ticket and hear Miller discuss the November outlook. August 11 at 8 PM at the Williamsburg schoolhouse.
C. J. Nobis outlines state tax changes proposing an earned income tax with a low exemption and a graduated rate, funding mainly schools, plus adjustments to corporate and utility taxes to cover part of losses from the 10 mile limit. He opposes a general retail sales tax unless absolutely necessary.
J M Patchell a Clermont County native with Army service in World War Rainbow Division seeks sheriff election. He is an Ohio State University graduate, former high school teacher, coach and insurance underwriter, married with two children. Pol Adv.
Richard C. Knause announces his candidacy for Clermont County auditor to the voters. He pledges to use personal and legal means to lower real estate taxes, retire bonded debt quickly, and adopt pay as you go with no new bonds except in emergencies. He promises courtesy and fair hearings and asks for votes on August 14. The Batavia 4-H club met with Mrs. H L Doughman on August 1 to discuss fair exhibits. next meeting is August 8.
The Clermont County baseball race narrows to seven with Owensville Tramps and Nobis eliminated. Amelia beat Edens 11 to 3 while Batavia defeated Newtonsville 10 to 9 in 11 innings. Cincinnati Builders crushed Nobis 16 to 0 as Williams and Griffith split mound duties.

County agent Baugh reports 278 tobacco checks totaling 7728 dollars were received Monday from Washington for the first growers who completed contracts. Checks cover land taken from production and rented to the government at 20 dollars per acre. Smallest 2 dollars for a city lot on 0.1 acre. largest 170 dollars to Elmer E. Pierce of Franklin Township. Average is 35 dollars per contract.
An important meeting of the Clermont County Milk Producers Union is set for Friday night August 10 at 8 30 PM in the Batavia Court House. The session will address issues affecting milk producers and farmers with principal speaker Michael Sborne, general manager of the Milk Producers Union and a member of the Cincinnati Sales Area control board.
