Rumors Of PCB Waste At CECOS/CER Landfill Denied

A caller to the CECOS/CER landfill in Jackson Township claimed truckers brought radioactive waste from Wisconsin. Officials confirmed the soil loads from Wisconsin concern polychlorinated biphenyls, with 125 loads received and 275 more expected for 400 total. A geiger counter would trigger NRC and police if radioactivity is detected.

Levies on Nov ballot for Clermont County areas

Emergency generator failure backs July storm outages

Dead batteries caused a July 2 outage that cut electricity to New Richmond departments. The council on July 27 named Police Chief Harold Kennedy to manage the unit’s operation. Nick Wolfe cited dead batteries as the blame. The council also hired Floyd Baker as zoning inspector commencing August 1. Bill Hidrice asked if Riverfest fences on private property could delay emergency response to residences.

Treasurer Bud Hines Resigns From Clermont County Post

Clermont County treasurer Bud Hines announces resignation effective October 1. Hines, 64, a Goshen resident and longtime Goshen Township Trustee, was appointed in 1974 and served through 1980 with reelections. A temporary appointment will be made by commissioners before Democratic central committee names a successor. Assistant Treasurer David Smith, 36, of Bethel, is expected to assume the post to avoid conflicts.
