Clermont County Representatives Named to Area CAC Board

Two Clermont County residents Mrs. James L. Brown and Clarence Ogletree join the Cincinnati Area Community Action Commission board. Brown of Milford serves on multiple local boards while Ogletree of Batavia works at Union Terminal and leads recreation efforts. Clermont is one of five counties served by the Cincinnati Area CAC staff.

Two Ohio Highway Hearings Set for Aug 19

The Ohio Department of Highways announces two public hearings on August 19. One at 10 a.m. in New Richmond High School, Clermont County, covers Rt 743 improvements and relocation from 1.4 miles east of U S 52 for 2.3 miles plus a 0.5 mile Rt 743 relocation from 6 miles northeast of S R 756. The second hearing at 2 p.m. in Bethel Elementary School addresses relocation of Routes 1 and 222 in Clermont County with a 1.5 mile shift beginning near Sugar Tree Rd.

CG&E Reports Higher 1965 Earnings and Sales Gains

The Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company and Subsidiaries report twelve months ended June 30, 1965 net earnings of $1.60 per common share after preferred dividends, up from $1.38 in the previous year. Gas utility sales rose 6.8 percent and electric kilowatt hour sales increased 7.8 percent versus 1964.

Batavia Unit Rates Superior At Camp Perry

The 192nd Engineer Truck Company returned from a summer camp in Camp Perry Ohio with an overall superior training performance. Capt John T Land praised every man in the company for the outstanding results. The unit provides general support to the 216th Engineer Battalion and is attached to the 216th Engineer Group in Blue Ash.

Union Trustees Transfer Funds For Police Expense

Union Township Trustees met July 31 1965 at the Union Township Hall. Constable Herrmann reported a new cruiser tire and about 13000 miles on the cruiser. They authorized rain coats for two constables and a $300 transfer from Legal Expenses to Police. John Kelsey to fill in for vacation. $2347.89 spent across Cemetery Road General and Misc funds.

Six arrested in gasoline theft from Farm Bureau trucks

Five juveniles and an 18 year old were arrested last week in Goshen for stealing $2.45 worth of gasoline from Farm Bureau trucks. The juveniles were cited to Juvenile Court on delinquency charges. Victor Boehle, 18, of 3337 Jefferson Street Cincinnati, faced petty larceny charges.

Staff Named to Lead Welfare Project

John Richert, welfare case worker, is named administrative specialist in charge of a $339,200 welfare department project to train unemployed men and mothers without husbands for the labor market. Federal grants total $339,200. Work begins August 1 with training starting September 1. other staff named for the project.

Simmons to Speak at Clermont GOP Meeting

Clermont County State Highway superintendent Russell Simmons will address the Clermont County Republican Club at the D X Ranch at 8 p m on August 12. George Sidwell announced the program on maintenance of state highways in Clermont County followed by a question and answer period.

Sales Tax Revenue Up In Ohio for 1965-66 Start

Ohio tax figures show sales and use tax collections 13.5 percent above last year. Since July 1 1965 the fiscal year total rose about 2.9 million to 24.1 million. For the two weeks ending July 24 1965 sales tax gains reached 2.7 million or 29.4 percent. Clermont two week receipts were 36467.30 and year total 69466.84 versus 60024.27 a year ago. Motor vehicle and house trailer taxes for July 11-24 ran 18508.35 against 23754.39 a year earlier.

Ward Wright Named Manager of Penney Store

Ward Wright, a Huntington, West Virginia native with a BS degree, has been promoted to store manager at Penney. He joined the company in 1954 as a salesman in Huntington and rose to department manager in Lima in 1955 and merchandise manager in Indianapolis in 1961. Wright and his wife Lois expect to reside in Day Heights with children Leslie Jan Ward Jr and Catherine Anne, and they are Presbyterian.

Jess F. Riley, 47, of Rt. 1 Moscow, appears for a 10 a.m. Monday hearing in Clermont County Court on incest charges filed by Sheriff Donald Watson. Bond set at $1000, alleged to involve Riley’s 14-year-old daughter.

County Home To Close And Reuse For School And Welfare

Clermont County will close its county home and relocate 30 residents to state and federal funded nursing homes. The site will be repurposed as a school for the retarded and welfare offices with potential sheltered workshop space on the premises. The plan, supported by County Engineer Carl H Rush, aims to save about 25 000 to 30 000 dollars annually and involves remodeling the first floor for the school and moving the program from Bible which the state forbids as a school beyond Nov 1.

Teen driver cited after hit and run in Batavia

A 15 year old from Sardinia on Route 2 was cited in Clermont after his Gumket caused a hydrant strike at Wood Street and North Riverside Drive in Batavia. The car, valued at $300 damage, fled the scene. a witness reported the license and direction to Batavia Police, which alerted the sheriff.

Two Cases Hear Effluent Discharge Topic In Courts

Judge John H. Houston will preside at 10 a.m. on August 10 in Brown County Common Pleas Court over a petition to modify an injunction that halted discharging effluent from Mulberry School's disposal plant onto Mrs. Laura Early's property. In Clermont County, Judge Darrell R. Hottle enjoined operation of a Longfield sewage plant, ruling no one may cast sewage on another's property without consent.

Lost Chord Club Bids For 1967 Convention

The Lost Chord Club met July 15 at the Veterans Administration Hospital to set by laws and promote its bid to host the 1967 International Association of Laryngectomees annual convention in Cincinnati. The effort is sponsored nationally by the American Cancer Society and locally by the club’s members, who have had their laryngectomies due to cancer.
