Sullivan Shoe Company expands to Batavia opening a fitting department in the Jamieson building rooms once used by the Overall factory. About August 15 start with 50 girls invited to apply at the Batavia work room as three eight hour shifts run at Williamsburg. Good opportunity for workers.
Dr Jos H Kneisley of Terrace Park dies suddenly at home after a period of ill health. A prominent Mason and surgeon with Milford office, he leaves a widow and three children. Private funeral at Johnson Funeral Home Milford Sunday 10:30. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery Milford. Death seen as a great loss to Clermont and Hamilton counties.
A fire at Iles Garage Monday night started when an electric light bulb broke and sparked gas on the floor. Firefighters with extinguishers battled flames that leaped to the ceiling but caused only minor damage.
Clermont County reports record wheat abundance with Frank Fisher of Deerfield Road near Williamsburg and Oweneville revealing 2200 bushels thrashed last week. Yields averaged 80 bushels per acre in a season of surplus and bin shortages among farmers.
Batavia is being improved with six new cement crossings and gutters installed by Henry Reynolds and workmen. The town features smooth streets shade and well kept lawns, presenting an attractive appearance to visitors. Some six foot weeds near the town approaches should be cut before seeding.
The National Guard Company of Batavia led by Lt Forrest E Bly and 2nd Lt Clyde F Tom left for Camp Perry last Sunday. Commissary head Frank Schissler and assistant Spanking prepare meals and bedding for 16 days. The roster lists staff sergeant Robert Moore first sergeant Hagar Kinner sergeants William Woods Blaine Moore Frank Schissler and others. The unit known as Headquarters Co 2nd Bn 166 Inf will be in camp for 16 days.
Public notice outlines petition filing deadlines for November 8 and September 8, requiring at least 25 signatures per local petition. It details petition head, candidate names, addresses, voter signatures, a five member vacancy committee, circulator affidavit, and candidate acceptance for school board and justice roles.
Sixty Clermont County 4-H members returned home after a week at Camp Ross on the Little Miami River. County Agent H N Wilson said the camp, run with Hamilton County, drew 196 participants. Tribes competed for points with Chickasaw winning. members received 4 H caps.
An optometrist in Jamieson Block advertises a painless blood pressure check during eye exams to assess whether glasses are needed and to potentially save lives by detecting abnormal pressure. A Summerside religious rally at Locust Corner by M E churches features preaching at 10:30, dinner, and a 4th quarterly conference led by Rev B S George.
Bob Lanham of Felicity, jailed in Clermont County on robbery and non support charges, received leave to attend his sister's funeral and never returned. A bill was found against him in both cases. Deputies searched Kentucky but found no trace. He is indicted yet arraignment awaits as the sheriff vows to bring him in.
The Clermont County fair at Owensville will start with one of the largest crowds expected. Races, bathing beauty contest, farm products display, poultry display, pony races and 4 H Club exhibits are planned. Family badges are 1.75 dollars, autos free, ample parking.
State and federal crews search Clermont County corn for the invasive worm. Despite daily inspections by teams employed to eradicate the corn borer, few findings have been reported and success remains limited.
The Grant M. E Church at Point Pleasant was dedicated last Sunday with an all day meeting. The Moscow pastor Rev Budd conducted the service and expressed satisfaction with the strong attendance and interest shown by the crowd.
The U B picnic at Oweneville Fair Ground drew a large crowd on Saturday with games and a fine dinner. Stands sold out and the event was a success in every way.
Instructions describe turning left by extending a hand horizontally, turning right by extending a hand upward, and stopping by pointing a hand downward. Suggests watching next week for demonstrations.
Mrs. Josephine Hulick widow of the late Hon. G W Hulick celebrated her 90th birthday last Friday on the hill west of Batavia with her son Gaylord. She received post cards from friends and neighbors, enjoys good health, and hopes to remain with us many years. Mrs Hulick thanks those who sent flowers fruit and cards.
Elizabeth Hoefler a 15 year old girl from the ridges near Williamsburg was found working in South Bend. Relatives and authorities notified John Hoefler and the family were reunited when the father returned with Elizabeth and the family Ford. The farm joyfully resumes life.
Clermont County Recorder's annual report covers June 1980 to June 1981. It lists deeds 1068 with 23 450 acres and mortgage data including 7167 mortgages 18855 acres valued at 11178818 34. Mortgages cancelled 591 on 10560 acres valued at 81508396. The report notes almost twice as many mortgages filed as cancelled.
County Treasurer Erdman shows a solid June session with a 10 percent real estate reduction. July 29 1980 tax receipts totaled 337068.98 compared with 835479.04 on July 20 1981, a drop of 1589.94 in 1980, while Delinquent Tax Collector Co. O. Rice also posts a strong showing as many pay promptly to clear their debts.
Two state representatives from Columbus with Dr Colburn County Health Commissioner and Deputy State Highway Director Frank Galbreath explored locations for two wells. One on Route 60 below Owensville near Popp's station and another on the A and P highway at Pt Pleasant in U S Grant Park facing the Grant Bridge. Wells will be driven with concrete block pumps and easy public access. Grant Park attracts thousands of travelers weekly and is popular nationwide.
Special days set for the 76th Carthage Fair Cincinnati August 12 to 15. Children under 15 admitted free on Children’s Day. County Commissioners' Day Flower Day and Queen City Day follow. Autogiro display and aviatrix Blanche Noyes to land at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Fletcher Bennett and Woods families announce a reunion at Bantam Fair Grounds on Saturday August 8 1931. All relatives are invited to attend the gathering and share in the family event.
Miss Freda Bauer returning to her brother’s home near Batavia with a gentleman friend Saturday night lost control as the car went over the creek bank below the Red Bridge. Moore’s ambulance carried her to the hospital with a broken leg a dislocated hip and other bruises. Her companion escaped with minor injuries as the car was wrecked.
Graduation exercises were held at the Clermont-Geneva Y P T C Camp Valley View Batavia on Friday July 81 at 10 oclock. The program included processional invocation scripture hymn and address with graduates Emily Brock Loveland Donald Taylor Mulberry William Massey and Edwin South Batavia receiving diplomas. A festival with home made ice cream and chicken sandwiches followed at Clover Church lawn Thursday evening August 6.
The 42nd annual celebration and home coming of Washington and adjoining townships will be held at Preston's Grove on August 16 1981. Good music speaking and water. If rain comes there will be bebade. Attractions include Jox Sargent Pree Moscow Kens nell Henson and alanty as secretary.

The old Elk Lick covered bridge was razed by Chas. Pringle and workers. Commissioners kept flooring and joists, receiving 26 dollars for the rest. Siding was fine poplar, frame solid, roof mostly sound. An iron bridge from Stonelick will replace it, bringing a needed improvement and saving money.
The Farmers' Bank at Martinsville Clinton county closed Monday by order of its directors. Ira J. Fulton state banking superintendent will take charge of liquidating the bank's funds. Directors say heavy withdrawals to pay taxes last Saturday made the action necessary. L. M. Townsend was the bank's cashier.
The Men s Bible Class of Christian Chapel Sunday School will host a festival at Mt. Holly school house on Saturday evening August 8 to benefit the church. Home made ice cream cake and other refreshments will be served with good entertainment. Your attendance is appreciated. Committee.
The Ohio State Department of Education announced a salary schedule for teachers in state aid districts that effectively reduces pay by about one tenth due to an eight month school term. The department says last year’s monthly scale is kept, with districts allowed to extend terms beyond eight months if funds permit.
County Recorder figures show a sharp drop in deeds and mortgages in the first seven months of 1981 to about 90 percent of the 1980 level. Highway easements recorded by August 1, 1981 are 26 percent of the 1930 benchmark, while chattel mortgages remain steady and used car sales rise in proportion to new vehicles.
