Batavia presents a festive scene as Old Town decorates for Home Coming and Centennial. Flags bunting colored lights and music from the Batavia Concert Band create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and residents during a week-long celebration centered at the armory relic room and town hall.
The county commissioners adjourned into regular session Monday handling standard bills. The Board of Complaint organized with Deputy Auditor Searles as secretary and will hear township complaints starting with Batavia Tuesday at 10 am. Few complaints were filed. claimants may present with two witnesses and the board will decide.
A big Home Coming program planned for Saturday features a Sycamore tree reunion a militant suffragette parade caricatures of suffrage supporters talks by visitors and old timer games with a picnic on the courthouse lawn. A Thursday meeting advanced parade plans drawing strong interest and large participation is expected.
Two new deputies named for eighty Ohio counties lead by Secretary of State to supervise selections until May 1, 1916. Elmer Taylor, Republican, replaces McMillen. S O Weaver, Democrat, of Batavia, retains his seat. Eight counties remain under contest for decision by the state party board. The board meets this week to organize and appoint a clerk.
Cincinnati absorbs Kennedy Heights after annexation papers filed with the Secretary of State. About 600 residents join the city and improvements including street oiling are planned for the newly added 18th ward, though residents remain unfazed by superstitions.
Wal boys of Company K return from a week at Camp Perry. The outing included drill target practice guard duty and leisure. Private Hanck starred in target practice and set a record during the event.

During a U N G outing at Camp Perry a stray ball struck Mike Jenike of Company K in the stomach as he dressed by the lake. The ball hit his watch first and glanced off, likely saving his life. He returned with the group Sunday night.

Friday evening at town hall a Home Talent show features three acts for visitors and the public. Admission is free for visitors, 25 cents for adults, 15 cents for children. The program includes musical numbers, fairy playlets, and a one act farce with a large cast of local players and a Bakavia Orchestra.

Other entries set trials for August 1914 and announce a referendum on consolidating probate and common pleas courts.

She describes mortar grinding, hand mills, sweep-horse mills, tread-wheel-water mills, and the shift to steam mills as roads and markets expanded. Mrs. Nettie H Grant and her daughter Miss Viola of Paris Ky visit Alex Ferguson and wife. Mrs. Alex Ferguson hosts a reception Wednesday evening with a luncheon. Mesdames Mollie Ferguson Elizabeth Robinson and Adellet Robinson are visiting Newport and Cincinnati. Mrs Belle Pendleton of Chicago visits friends here. Milton Russell and wife entertained a few friends Friday evening.
The county school board met with full quorum forming Northern District from Wayne Goshen Stonelick Jackson townships Milford Loveland became separate supervision districts Loveland with Paxton Branch Hill and Milford with the township withdrew Williamaburg special and township withdrew Central and Southern remain to be formed The board adjourned to meet Monday August 10 at Williamaburg.
Thomas B. White transfers 2 acres in Miami Township to Orley W. Dericks for 1700 dollars. Sam Rodner sells 80 acres in Pierce Township to Charles L. Faber for one dollar. Thelas et al. deed 80 acres in Pierce Township to Edwin Adama for one dollar. Herbert T. Kent transfers 92 to 100 of an acre in Loveland to Mary Wolfgan for one dollar.

Dr M S Griffith to provide indigent medical care for one year at 150 dollars. water plug near the machine shop authorized for fire protection. real estate transfers include Martha McAfee to Dora Binkley for 46 acres Batavia Township. Griffith to WahHorn 129 Batavia lot for 600. Anna Fisher et al to Sapah Robb for 7 tenths acre in Union Township. Lewis Gelvin to John Witham et al for 16 acres in Union Township.
Presidents of Stonelick Wayne Goshen and Jackson townships are summoned to Shiloh Chautauqua Grounds on Friday August 7 at 9 am. They will select a district superintendent as requested by H Q Aultman County Superintendent.
Mrs. Zuella Pease Laub hosted a picnic for her music class on Saturday August 1 in Locust Grove. Boys played ball, girls enjoyed swings and hammocks, lunch featured a grand chicken dinner, followed by lake activities and watermelon.
Sheriff Williams received word from Camp Perry that a Cincinnati deserter from the O N G was in Clermont county near New Richmond and a warrant was sent for his arrest. The man was captured at the mentioned place, brought to Batavia and sent to Cincinnati where army officers awaited to return him to Camp Perry for punishment.
The Hillsboro armory project awarded to R A Masterson of Manchester after June 18 bids. Bond set at $9,250. Construction to start immediately amid local approval. Company K of Batavia regains strength after a membership setback.
The Michigan Supreme Court found the Cash Register Co of Dayton guilty of unlawful restraint of trade and levied a $10,000 fine. The payment is required before the company may operate in the state, in the Henry J. James suit for the American Cash Register Co under the anti trust law.
Allen Martin of Miamiville faced Justice Lease last Saturday for non-support. He has a wife and ten children, eight of whom live with the feeble minded in the home, while his wife lies in the hospital awaiting childbirth. The report prompts public demand for laws banning marriage of the feeble minded.
Large crowd gathered on a perfect Saturday for the Grange and K of P picnic at the Boston fair grounds. Attendees enjoyed talks music and contests with strong participation. Committees in charge earned praise for organizing a successful event.
Henry Hahn of this place died July 29 at his son John Hahn’s residence. He was born in Germany and worked as a tailor. Funeral from the residence Saturday was to be conducted by Rev. Wegner.
James Carter Jr aged six months died at his parents home last Friday after a ten day illness. He was bright and attractive and will be sadly missed by many. Funeral Sunday burial at Williamsburg.
The contract for the new Branch Hill school building is awarded to Arthur P. Eveland of Terrace Park and work will begin immediately.
