In a Thursday hearing in the county probate court room 40, the Bantam Dance Hall case was upheld after 40 witnesses were heard. The proceedings focused on the venue and licensing aspects, with extensive testimony detailing operations and compliance.
Probate Court in Bantam dismissed a nuisance charge against Ashurst-Whistler's Dance Hall after McClain and Moore failed to prove negligence or illegal attendance. In a separate crash near Route 133, Elbert Long was killed and Wilson Benjamin died later at Bethesda Hospital after a Chrysler roadster left the road and rolled multiple times.
Morris Lutsky, proprietor of a New Richmond dry goods store, has leased the vacant room beside the Ayer Buick showroom on Market Street and plans a Batavia dry goods store. He will offer shoes, dry goods, and ready-to-wear clothing with a hoped-for grand opening by the end of next week.
Our oldest resident Mrs Josephine Hulick aged 96 of Batavia celebrated her birthday Saturday. Widow of the late Judge G W Hulick she is mother to Dr Tom Hulick of Evanston Cincinnati and Mrs G B Van Horn and Gaylord Hulick of Batavia. She was the first lady clerk in the probate office when her husband was judge. She fell seven years ago breaking her hip and uses a wheelchair most of the time. She enjoys birthday cards votes in every election and interest in politics. Her hearing is good but eyesight poor and she has lived in the Hulick homestead on the hill west of town for over 70 years. Most old acquaintances have passed on. her parents Lott Hulick and wife were Clermont county pioneers.
Two cases were heard by Mayor Wiseman on drunkenness and disorderly conduct after arrests by Marshal H. M. Kain Saturday night. Wilbur Ulrey, 65, of the county infirmary, was fined ten dollars and costs and returned to jail when unable to pay. Albert Wider, 65, on a WPA project on Jackson Pike, was fined five dollars and costs with sentence suspended during good behavior.
Stanley Hendrixson an 80 year old barber of Felicity died after his car left the road and overturned near Moscow Neville while returning from Cincinnati. Rollin Simon driver and Wendell Cann who reported the accident to the coroner were involved. John Butters and Rollin Simon were hurt and treated at home. Hendrixson died Sunday at Bethesda hospital at 2 p.m.
Charles Miller a Batavia soft drink truck driver collided with Paul Coyle a Amelia grocer on a narrow road near Lucy Run cemetery last Thursday evening. Miller’s truck lost a fender while Coyle’s car sustained considerable damage.
Kenneth Elgin aged 18 of 249 Bodmann Street Mt. Auburn was notified by Yale University officials that he won the Eugene Frederick Rowe scholarship Elgin will enter Yale as a freshman candidate for the B S degree this fall son of Mrs Lou Orebaugh Elgin formerly of Batavia S
Teachers and all former pupils and friends are invited to the annual homecoming at Burke Park Bethel on August 8. A basket dinner will be served at noon followed by a program in the afternoon.
Adam Yanger aged 60 of New Richmond pled guilty to assault with intent to kill and was sentenced to 115 years in the Ohio Penitentiary. Herbert Blair Heywood aged 19 pled guilty to shooting with intent to kill and assault with intent to rob and received 115 years in the Mansfield Reformatory. Pierson, Milford marshal, pled not guilty with trial set for August 23.
The New Richmond council passes a resolution to prohibit public gatherings in town and requests the County Health Board act under law. Dr. Carter, the County Health Physician, is authorized to act as there is a case of infantile paralysis in the town. Mayor W. R. Frye urges residents to comply and assist.
Fred Painter Jr eight of New Rich mond diagnosed with infantile paralysis by Drs Muzar Scarce and Benjamin Hoyer of Cincinnati. Case isolated under order of the County Health Department to safeguard others in the county.
Barnes 21 and Rufus Hibbard 22 were in a car that struck a telephone pole about 7:00 am on the way to work near Nicholsville. Hibbard suffered a fractured nose and lacerated eyebrow and was treated at Bethel by Dr. W H Cully. Barnes was not injured. Both workers for Pringle Construction Company.
Local 100 Teamsters and Chauffeurs Union of Cincinnati called a strike on Monday inconveniencing businessmen in every town in the county. Local firms report pink goods delays and some store owners must drive to Cincinnati to retrieve small packages because local trucking firms are barred from handling them.
The Clermont County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session in Batavia on August 2 with full attendance. They approved numerous bills for gas, materials, and labor for road and bridge projects, opened bids for Burdsall Road stone work, and authorized plans to fix Baldwin Bridge over Shaler Creek with repair estimates due August 9. They also approved $1 120.71 in relief payments and assigned surplus commodity distribution duties to clerk Charles M. Curry.

Roger S Dayton a telephone company maintainer 27 years was found dead in his car in his garage at Perintown Friday morning by his wife Nettie. The radio played and the gas tank was empty. Coroner Sam White concluded monoxide gas likely killed him as the garage door closed. He leaves a widow and two children. Funeral services planned.
The Clermont County Fair runs August 17–20 with a four day program and a three day harness racing schedule. A 44 person rodeo troupe plus pony show band music and other features are planned, with a strong junior fair focus and a $750 budget for contests. Livestock parades on Friday at 1:00 p.m. on the race track will showcase premiums. all stock except swine and sheep must parade.
The 147 Infantry Headquarters Company of Batavia returned home Sunday noon after a two week stay at Camp Perry. 1st Lieutenant Forrest Ely and 2nd Lieutenant Frank Morrison led the unit. The soldiers reported good treatment and meals, traveling to and from the camp in tracks supplied by the state.
Kyle Moyer and his wife along with Lewis Wolf prepare to travel south soon. Moyer built a house trailer with full home conveniences, a fine piece of workmanship both inside and out, hitched behind a touring car and carried with ease.
