Mt Carmel Glen Este Boosters All Star Baseball Game

The Mt Carmel Glen Este Boosters Club hosts an all star game at Summerside school baseball diamond on Sunday August 6 starting 12 30 pm. Four classes of baseball pace the afternoon with teams from Q and C Knothole D and C and A Knothole. Proceeds aid Mt Carmel Glen Este area programs. Mothers may participate by calling Mrs Lois Brunner.

Three Mt. Carmel Scouts Earn Eagle Badges at Farm Ceremony

Three Troop 464 members of the Mt. Carmel-Glen Este PTA earned Eagle Scout badges. Steve Brooks of 526 Roney Sn. led in merit badges while serving in leadership posts and as Order of the Arrow member. Gary Meyer of 499 Roney Sn. earned 23 badges and participates in canoeing and school sports. Art Hilsinger Jr. of Anne Mae Lane held 23 merit badges and served as senior patrol leader while assisting new scouts.

Clermont County Fair board adds two buildings for 1961 fair

The Clermont County Fair Board announces two new structures on the fairgrounds for the 1961 fair from August 15 to 19. A 24 by 70 feet swine barn and a 70 by 100 feet commercial building were completed. County officials and organizers anticipate another banner event, with the fair listed among top state fairs for six years.

State Director Urges Citizens To Form Welfare Committee

Mrs. Robert N. Gorman head of the State Department of Public Welfare urges Clermont County residents to form a citizens committee to review and improve the public assistance program. She cites community responsibility and calls for collaboration with the welfare department to identify needs and protect taxpayers. The Courier publishes a petition to support the idea, to be mailed to Mrs. William S. Moore in Batavia or to the newspaper.

Countians Named To Key UA Posts

Twenty two Clermont residents from communities throughout the county have been appointed to key posts in the 1961 62 United Appeal announced by George H Day of 727 Vera Cruz Pike Milford chairman of the Clermont County division. Day said county civic leaders rally to aid health welfare and character building organizations supported by United Appeal. The campaign begins Sept 5 and aims to raise 6 665 600 for 125 Community Chest agencies and 16 Red Cross services. County Health Board Seeks State Aid For Commissioner

Clermont County Board of Health appealed to the State Department of Health for help in obtaining a health commissioner. They plan to hire a part time commissioner from a neighboring county until a permanent officer is found. Thomas Maloney joined the committee leading the search, replacing Dr. A G Schulze who now heads the board. Grant Cannon chairs the committee with Diana Schwartz as a member. They must hire by September or risk loss of state and federal funds and board recognition.

Housing Needed for 40 New Teachers in Amelia West Clermont

Amelia West Clermont school officials announce 40 new teachers will join the staff for the upcoming term and seek housing. Residents with apartments or houses for rent are asked to list available properties with the executive office PL 20666.

Contract Awarded For Rt. 132 Work

Pickney P. Brewer and Sons Co of Cincinnati has a $78,053.98 contract to widen drain and pave 0.731 miles of State Rt. 132 in two parts at Batavia north edge and 600 feet east of Rt. 222. Work began July 12 and should finish by August 31 with traffic maintained.

County faces $178,274 shortfall in half-year spending

The county reduces operations for the year’s second half after a tax backlog and rising costs. Delinquent taxes and new building debts strain the general fund, with $103,288 unpaid bills and about $252,429 left to run the rest of the year. Sheriff Dericks, Treasurer Ross, Clerk Parker, Engineer Rush, and Planning Director Suro face budgeted limits as several line items are cut or constrained. Model Plane Fan Caps Second In National Event

Ted R. Cooper of 504 Denmark Dr. finished second in the open combat event at the Model Airplane National Championships in Willow Grove Pennsylvania, with more than 190 competitors. He also took second in the combat division at the Mid American Championships in Lexington Kentucky earlier this summer. Cooper is president of the Cincinnati Controliners and a Bendix Corp. technician. A surprise party for him was held by fellow club members at the Stanley Ave club house.
