Fourteen Fail in Camp Campbell Medical Exam
Fourteen of one hundred boys in Company M at Camp Campbell failed a severe medical exam last Thursday. Among the failures were Harry Anderson Ed Shaw Howard Hawkins of Batavia and George Rice Volney Malott of Williamsburg. The unit will be vaccinated before moving south and receive a 10 day home leave during recovery. Georgetown Democrat notes the camp’s activities including a hospital tent led by Eddie Shaw, a creek recall miscue by Private Johns, and a successful minstrel show that raised funds, with performances by Bethel residents Parker Rutherford Laypole Rice and others.

Automobiles collide at Batavia rail crossing injuring seven
Gatch Speidel and six companions rode in a Ford runabout when another faster car passed. At the N and W crossing the Ford struck the rail, tires burst, and occupants were thrown free except Speidel. Adams suffered the worst injuries with broken ribs and lung damage. all could walk home except him who was taken by another auto. Officers urged stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
