Batavia Company M Drill at Georgetown Camp

Batavia represented as Company M, 31 local boys in camp at Georgetown drill several hours daily with full provisions. Officers include Captain F. X. Frebis, 1st Lt E. R. Knauit, 2nd Lt C. A. Rein. List of noncoms, sergeants, corporals, cooks, buglers and other staff provided. Several drafted boys expected to join before the deadline and winter quarters planned in the south by August 1.

Pony Day At Bethel Delivers Three Ponies In Contest

Bethel merchants hosted pony day on July 14 awarding three ponies with gear to Ruth Snyder Clara Belle Cannon and R Jack Ellsberry a two year old. Event drew a large crowd and featured town committee leadership. Citizens urged weed control and town landscaping improvements as weeds seed in streets and yards.

Fine reception for Batavia company M before front

About 1000 Batavia residents gathered at Nichols Park to honor Company M as they head to the front. Chief Justice Nichols arranged transport and supper, Rev. Martin and Attorney W. C. Bishop spoke, Captain Frebis praised the volunteers, and the Batavia Concert Band played.
