Social services levy withdrawn from ballot by county officials

Clermont County Commissioners withdrew the social services levy from the June 8 ballot after a March 25 vote. Senior Services Director Lois Dale reported the issue before the filing deadline and officials sought withdrawal due to insufficient time to promote the levy and needed language clarifications. Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Blust advised there is no clear legal authority to withdraw but supported removal if a simple board letter suffices. Continued on page 2.

Motorcycle and bicycle incidents rise with warm weather

Batavia Ohio Highway Patrol reports a spring uptick in motorcycle bicycle and pedestrian crashes with 18 accidents last Friday and Sunday near SR 125. No deaths, one serious injury and 16 other injuries. Sgt Gary Cunningham notes people are unaccustomed to lighter traffic after winter and that alcohol played a role in some cases. The post logged 270 accidents this month about nine daily on average.

Clermont County to accept MasterCard for traffic fines

Clermont Countians will soon be able to pay traffic violations with MasterCard or Visa after county judges approved the plan. Sgt. James Castner noted Warren County and Columbus already use the system, which will mainly serve out of state drivers and reduce court time and paperwork by allowing bond posting without a court appearance.

Goshen School May Lose 25 Acres of Land

A Goshen School Board meeting drew a crowd as officials discussed the possible loss of about 25 acres known as The Farm at Snider Road and SR 28. The deed sits with the Board of Zoning Appeals, which will decide if the district can obtain the deed to build a school, amid austerity plan talks and potential nonrenewals.

Batavia Township trustees answer drainage questions

Batavia Township trustees discussed the Ohio Attorney General’s opinion on repair and maintenance of drainage areas at their April 19 meeting. Legal counsel David Frey presented the report after residents pressed officials about drainage responsibility and the differing legal conclusions. Subdivisions may cooperate on maintenance, and the responsible subdivision must clean and maintain ditches along its roads.

County board approves transfers to Milford district

Clermont County Board of Education on April 21 approved seven Forest Ridge homes to move from Clermont Northeastern to Milford School District. Buses must traverse Milford routes, adding about 45 minutes travel for students. The board refused a 90 acre portion of a Tealtown Road farm transfer to West Clermont, citing remaining acreage in the latter district.

Local CAP receives national charter in Clermont County

Clermont County Air Patrol CAP has earned its national charter on April 25. Squadron commander Jerry Faddis notes about 30 active local volunteers will support search and rescue and emergency missions using their own planes. CAPs 1941 origin and wartime relief role are cited along with regular AF sponsored programs.
