A committee of 350 parents met April 8 at Union Township Hall to press the West Clermont School Board for answers to rumors about problems at Clough Pike Elementary. They urged a meeting with administrators and teachers and hope for a special board session to outline corrective steps.

Social service agencies in the county ask commissioners to remove a one mill levy from the June 8 primary ballot and reinstate it in the November 2 general election. In a April 14 letter Edward Parish cites insufficient time to inform voters and notes funds would not be available until February 1983.

Bethel Mayor David Smith questions a 172000 adjust ment in CG&E wholesale electric rates sought from FERC. CG&E seeks an overall 20 percent rise for seven wholesale customers at about 16 million annually to fund East Bend Station costs and pollution controls. Smith plans to oppose it at the April 19 Bethel Board of Public Affairs meeting, warning higher bills would hit Bethel’s two percent margin.

Park employee admits welfare fraud in Clermont County
Debbie Rose Foster 29, a former Clermont County woman, was sentenced after pleading guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge of welfare fraud in 1981. Judge Louis J. Schwartz suspended six months in jail and a $1000 fine, placing her on two years probation and ordering costs. Foster admitted receiving $998 in Aid to Dependent Children and food stamps while employed at East Fork Lake State Park, with a bi weekly net pay of $269. The case, developed by a caseworker, noted Foster resided at Batavia Township and had no prior record.

Goshen to Break Ground on New Firehouse April 24
Goshen's volunteer fire department and Goshen Township trustees plan a groundbreaking Saturday at 2 p.m. for a new 13 332 square foot, one story firehouse on SR 28 near Belfast Goshen Road. Another Clermont historical mark disappears
Anna Dumford notes the loss of Clermont County’s old Main and Second Street building once used by Social Lodge 29 and later occupied by Masons. The 1855 three story structure, built on the site of Clermont’s first log school, was demolished March 20 1982 after a beam injury to workers and others. The destruction ends a landmark linked to early county education religion and business.
