Amelia reports on Batavia Ohio considering annexation in Vol CXVIH No 6 issue 5349. The short note highlights civic action and local governance developments in a regional paper format.
A proposed annexation outlined for Thursday, April 29, 1965 would extend from Mt. Holly Road north to Route 125 and through several townships to Ohio 125. It would include parts of Monroe Batavia and Pierce townships and expand Amelia’s municipal boundaries.
Bethel Council approved a Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company application to supply natural gas at rates equal to nearby Batavia and Williamsburg. The project costs about 250000 dollars and will include nearly six miles of six inch pipe plus seven to eight miles of distribution mains. CG&E will install service pipes curb to meter at a cost of 2.50 per foot with a minimum 50 dollars.
Clermont County Master Plumbing Assn requests prompt clarification of installation procedures for connecting homes to the Union Township sewer system. An early meeting with the County Board of Health aims to establish a cost effective policy for plumbers and homeowners, with 2000 septic tanks to be abandoned as the system replaces them.
Glen Este warms to new owners Francis and Martha Rapp of Amelia who have held a race car sponsor role and run Rapp's Landscape Co. They complete the Auto Sports stock purchase and rename the track this year Greater Cincinnati Race Bowl opening Sunday after noon May 16 with a full late model stock car program.
A lightning strike damaged the Miami Goshen Stonelick Water System booster station on Branch Hill Miamiville Road Friday night. Water service for a few residents was restored by 2 p.m. Saturday after repairs. Ohio counties and municipalities will share 48 638 645.90 from the first 1965 motor vehicle revenue distribution for road maintenance. Clermont County received 361 723 with others to follow in June totaling 7917 919.10. Funds come from 47 percent county, 5 percent equalization, and 34 percent district of registration allocations. Nelson said the funds support Ohio’s secondary roads.
Lewis A Manning, 21, of Bethel Concord Road Williams burg, was fined for failure to yield and leaving the scene of an accident. He received six months in jail with six months suspended, plus additional fines for brake and speed violations. Damages totaled about 255 dollars.
Union Township trustees scheduled a public hearing at 7 30 p m May 19 at Glen Este Mt Carmel School on a petition to incorporate all of Union Township and part of Pierce Township into a city. The 2121 supporters filed 107 maps with clerk Lois Donnellen.
Clermont County will survey its recreation facilities through volunteer groups under Nick Visnicis direction. The effort aims to identify facility gaps and form an action plan for developing recreation opportunities with the new Clermont County Community Action Committee sharing implementation duties. Civic groups may assist in shaping the plan and summer project ideas include street movies and pop activities.
The notice lists County concerts Hootenannies sing alongs and AAU track clinics along with a Cincinnati Reds baseball clinic for youths. Separately the Ohio Liquor Control Board issued a wine permit to Herbert Hoberg of Batavia and is handling a beer and wine permit transfer for Charles and Erma Stout of Buckwheat Cash & Carry-Out at 5836 Buckwheat Rd Milford.
Amelia Methodist Church presents The Cincinnatians male chorus at Amelia Senior High School Auditorium Saturday May 8 at 7 30 p.m. The group has given over 200 concerts including three with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under director Hubert Kocknitz who also leads the College Conservatory of Music. An intermission surprise will feature a local group. Proceeds benefit the Amelia Methodist Church Choir. William G. Ellis directs.
The Clermont County Community Action Committee will meet at 10 a.m. May 6 in the county for her area. The committee partially forwarded a survey to the appropriate agency for township-wide consideration. A citizen suggested youth involvement to develop facilities at Stonelake Lake, but a query to Fred Marr of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources returned a negative reply.
Owensville hosts a May 1 bicycle derby at Clermont County Fair Grounds race track with 16 races for all ages. Registration 8 to 10 am. trophies and ribbons awarded. May Queen race features girls from nine county high schools. door prizes hourly. Proceeds fund a Clermont Northeastern school scholarship loan fund.
Water systems superintendent William Iles asked commissioners to approve a 10 by 20 foot addition to the MGS Water System booster station at Miami Township. The plan adds a 1000 gpm pump, joining two 500 gpm pumps. Bids open May 14 for a well pump for PUB and MGS systems.
Officials discussed site selection for a new council hall on Old Merwin-10 Mile Road near the Union-Pierce line. The K of C requested road repairs and asked Engineer Carl H Rush to study the issue. Ennis Roy asked to be notified of closures due to sewer project construction. GLEN ESTE police constable Paul Herrmann and assistant Thomas Thorpe are now in uniform.
