Clermont County Flag Design Contest Surpasses 600 Entries

More than 600 school students submitted entries for Clermont County's official flag design contest spearheaded by the Clermont County Historical Society. Judges include Judge Orville W. Halbisch and Harold McKinley. winners announced after May 1 with a $25 prize and the flag to fly over county installations. The Historical Society says Clermont may be Ohio’s only county with an official flag.

Board Fails To Change Vote On School Split

Clermont County education board debated forming a new West Clermont district after repeated levy defeats. Proponents warned of debt sharing if split, while leaders urged further meetings. May 4 primary registration requires April 23 at the Clermont County Board of Elections.

Public Hearing on New Well for PUB Water System

Clermont County Commissioners held a public hearing on building an additional well for the PUB Water System. No objectors appeared. Water Systems Manager Harlan Mace said the well with appurtenances would cost about 27 500 dollars and be the last at the Palestine Road site downstream along the Ohio River from the Beckford power plant near New Richmond.

Jury Trial Set In Police Chief Case

A jury trial is scheduled for May 19 before Judge Louis J. Schwartz in Clermont County Court on the assault and battery charge against Milford Police Chief Earl N. Konrad. He is accused by Floyd R. Ertel of striking him with an open hand during questioning at Milford Shopping Center. Ertel faces pending charges in Milford Mayor's court of reckless driving, disorderly conduct, and related matters.

Union Trustees OK Signs and Tile For Township Roads

Union Township trustees met April 10 at the township hall at 1 p.m. The road foreman can buy seventy feet of tile for Barg-Salt Run and Binning Roads. Roads signs were approved for Marieda Vermont Riddle Road and Elmont. James Hermann police constable may buy 500 courtesy tags. Total expenditures 1993.37 split among Cemetery fund 490.49 Road Funds 569.20 and General Fund 933.68 per clerk Lois J. Donnellon.

Volunteers Fight Against Cancer In Clermont County

About 1500 Clermont County volunteers began a Crusade against cancer with Crue gade general chairman Charles P. Woods stating strong preparation and confidence. The effort aims to reach every household to distribute cancer detection literature and raise funds for educational research and services. The program features films, lectures, and literature highlighting early detection as a lifesaving factor and calls for increased research funds.

New Water System Eyed Near River Town

New Richmond area seeks annexation to boost tax revenue

Petitions signed by 74 of 77 property owners in area seek to annex Pierce Township lands to New Richmond. The Beckford power plant already contributes over a million dollars yearly to area revenue and sells water to the village. A June 30 hearing is set in Common Pleas Court, with legal notices required for six weeks.

Township officials prepare petitions for proposed city incorporation

Township clerk and trustees will receive petitions at 1 p m Saturday and forward them to the county commissioners. Each village within three miles will be invited to annex if the measure passes. If annexation fails the question would appear on the ball lot. Voters in the proposed area would decide. Observers debate whether entire village annexation or partial annexation applies. Moore notes 34 teacher vacancies in West Clermont district now, rising by May. The county board accepted the resignation of Nick Visnic as director of administrative services.
