Ohio Doctors Urge Salk Vaccine Use With Equity Rules

The Ohio State Medical Association House of Delegates issued guidance on administering the Salk polio vaccine through family physicians for those not covered by school immunization programs. It urges cooperation among the public, medical and pharmaceutical sectors to allocate scarce vaccine fairly, prioritizing children fourteen and under and pregnant women. It also calls on pharmacists to distribute equitably, urges public bodies to secure vaccine for the needy, and repeats the two to four week schedule with a third dose seven months later as recommended by Dr Salk and the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.

Opening of Ray Bailer's Drive-In Attracts Local Fans

Rex Dale of WCKY wowed New Richmond Saturday at the grand opening of Ray Bailer's Big Momma Drive-In. A 12 year old Tod Tomlin provided records and help, guiding Dale to a cache of 45s and the crowd enjoyed WCKY and WCPO personalities helping to entertain.

Subjects Chosen In Farm Program

The 1955 Efficiency in Farming Program held April 20 at Williamsburg high school featured Eugene Wittmeyer from Ohio State University. Attendees selected four topics for future meetings, including beef and dairy feeding, lime and fertilizer needs, meadow and pasture management, and farm water supply.

Batavia Council Plans Landscape Project For Dump

Batavia Village Council, facing a deteriorating dump site by State Route 74, will plant shrubs along a newly fenced area and limit dump access times with a guard at the gate. Final council decisions arrive at the next meeting. Meanwhile Wilmer Lee of Route 3 Marietta was injured when a tractor-trailer ran off Route 50, overturning near Perintown. he received ten stitches as Sheriff Clyde Dericks investigates.

Parrott New Clerk of Election Board

Edmund D. Parrott 55 industrial arts instructor at Batavia school named clerk of the Clermont County Board of Elections succeeding the late S L Larkin. Parrott a Batavia native and former Batavia schools superintendent 1944 1948 is WWI veteran and Miami University alumnus. Proceeds from Loveland Kiwanis minstrel April 30 go to welfare funds. Pierce Township Civic Association meets May 2 at the Pierce Township School.

Grant Pilgrimage to Georgetown Rescheduled for May 1

The Grant birthday pilgrimage by the Boy Scouts of Brown and Clermont Counties, postponed from April 24 due to bad weather, will now take place Sunday May 1 at Georgetown fair grounds. Events include a parade at 2 pm and a program at 3 pm with Kenneth Taylor plus the Georgetown band, Arthur E. Roberts as speaker, presiding official Joe Nordman, and religious invocations and benediction. Mayor B H Crawford welcomes the scouts.

Polio Shots Begin In Clermont County Area

The first grade children in Clermont County receive Salk polio vaccine shots this week with 75 to 99 percent parental consent. Vaccinations start Tuesday at Bethel New Richmond and Amelia, then Thursday at Owensville Goshen and Milford, finishing Friday in Batavia. The program is supervised by Dr. F M Oxley.

Funds Sought for Clermont County Law Library

At a Clermont County Bar Association meeting a resolution urged the Law Library Association to contact the county treasurer to request funds for the county law library. The association seeks to pool fines and fees allotted by statute to support operation and maintenance. A May 4 meeting in Probate Court will elect trustees choose a librarian and set a financial plan.

BMOP Chief Pollitt Resigns and Evanshine Named Chief

BMOP Fire Chief Luther Pollitt resigns effective May 12 1955 ending 30 years with local departments. Clifford Evanshine is chosen to succeed him. Pollitt remains a BMOP trustee. Evanshine began on Amelia Volunteer Fire Department in the 1940s and has served as assistant chief and president. The department plans officer changes improved daytime crew and telephone dispatch. A 1954 diploma award recognized BMOP members for completing a state education division fire fighting course.
