Farmer Shoots Farmer in Domestic Dispute

Andrew Schneider aged 60 shot Sam Silverman 48 with a double barrel shotgun last Thursday after Silverman allegedly entered Schneider’s home and removed a gun. Silverman was wounded in the face arm side and chest but survived. Schneider was jailed after waiving examination and bound over to the grand jury on a $6000 shooting with intent to kill charge.

Immunization Drive Shields Clermont County Schoolchildren

The District Board of Health with state and federal support completed a diphtheria and smallpox immunization program for Clermont County schools. Through home letters, physician participation, and countywide follow ups, about 3000 children were immunized and 1500 vaccinated, protecting nearly all of the roughly 6000 students. Cases and deaths from diphtheria declined since 1931, underscoring the need for immunization as the sole proven defense.

Auto crash injures Mrs. Kate Oberlin in treacherous turn

Mrs. Kate Oberlin of Withamsville escaped serious injury after her car left Grant Highway and rolled over last Friday. She sustained cuts to arms face and legs and was taken to hospital by a passing motorist. The accident occurred on a sharp treacherous curve known for frequent turnovers.

Forged State Highway Checks Circulating in Newark

Merchants and banks are alerted that forged checks bearing the State Highway Department name are circulating in Newark. The counterfeit notes resemble regular checks but use off color ink and cheaper paper. Relief work and part time employees are accused of introducing the checks to merchants. officials warn cashiers to verify signers and identities.

Vehicles must stay to the right except to turn left when crossing or overtaking. Left turning vehicles must pass to the right of and beyond the center of the intersection before completing the turn.

Batavia Band Hosts Concert and Card Party Fundraiser

On Tuesday May 3 at 7 30 the Batavia High School Band will sponsor a concert at the Armory followed by a card party and bridge 500 game to raise funds for band uniforms. Admission is 35 cents and the public is invited to attend the event for both or either activity. The band seeks support after a year of hard work.

Franklin Township Organizes Republican Group

Republicans in Franklin township met in Felicity on September 17 and formed the Franklin Township Republican Organization to unite voters for party welfare locally and beyond. Officers and an executive committee were named. meetings are scheduled weekly Mondays at 8 p.m. All Republican voters are invited to join and support party interests.

Entertaining Town Hall Night Draws Gentle Crowd

A Saturday program at Batavia U B church sponsored by the Senior Choir and the Edenton Ladies Aid Society provided enjoyable entertainment. The event drew a smaller audience than hoped, while the Poets Union meeting at Bethel's Grant Memorial Building offered a later program with good attendance reported.

Jersey Cattle Registry Offer For Purebred Jerseys

The American Jersey Cattle Club offers a temporary registration reduction to five dollars for purebred Jerseys over two years old. The County Agricultural Agent reports many breeders are taking advantage as the national group shows appreciation for current finances. Executive secretary Lewis W. Batavia High School schedules a series of events in May led by seniors. A May 38 band concert and board party at the armory begins at 7 30 p.m. on Tuesday followed by bridge and 600. May 6 features the senior dramatic production House of a Thousand Thrills at Town Hall at 8 p.m. with a mystery play cast. May 7 Clermont County scholarship team goes to Miami University for the State Scholarship Contest. May 8 Reverend Huecker delivers the baccalaureate sermon at 8 p.m. in the Methodist Church. Locust Corner Grange Holds First Meeting in New Auditorium

The Locust Corner Grange met April 6 in the new Pierce township school auditorium with good attendance. Visitors from Batavia and Bethel granges attended while County Agent A N Wilson presented a slideshow titled Deadline. Irma Knause led readings with Mrs Lipps and Mrs White, a luncheon followed, and planning began for a Mothers Day program on May 4.

Owensville Grange No 2403 hosted an anniversary event featuring song readings and contests led by charter members. Visiting Grangers from Newtonsville Batavia Marathon Williamsburg attended a sisters vs brothers program contest and a minstrel show led by Owensville members.
