A Sunday morning fire in Hugo flats, Batavia, caused by a water tank explosion heated by a gasoline burner, ignited woodwork at Tom Danbury’s pool hall and spread smoke through the building. Mrs Kate Erion Gilhouser of Cincinnati died Thursday night at her sister Mrs Jacob Wolf s home. A former Batavia resident she ran a boarding house here and with her parents once lived on a farm south of Batavia. Funeral Saturday at the Wolf home with burial in Union cemetery.

Young Loveland Girl Fatally Burned in Gasoline Explosion
Miss Bertha Rafnick aged 18 of Loveland suffered fatal burns when fumes from a gasoline container used to start a fire at her home exploded Sunday morning. She was taken to Christ Hospital and died hours later. Coroner Scott Kearns of Hamilton County reported burns to her hands body and legs. All clothing burned away before relatives reached her.

First To Vote In Absentee Ballot Cast By Monroe Man
August Light of Monroe Township, a guard at the Ohio penitentiary, was the first to apply for an absent voter's ballot and voted last Friday afternoon. He was home on vacation and came to Batavia before returning, as he has done for years. His family lives near Laurel. Absent voters have until three days before the primary to vote when ballots are delivered to presiding judges. The ticket is large and requires time to decide.

War Veteran Edgar E. Aston Dies at 84
Edgar E. Aston of Bethel aged 84 and last Civil War veteran in Bethel has died after answering the call last Wednesday. He served in multiple government branches during an 80 year enlistment and passed away at the home of Mrs. Cora Oldham with burial set for Friday. Batavia notes three remaining veterans in Clermont County: Jos Homan Jos Platter and Wm Hewitt, the latter still active.
