Clocks move ahead to daylight saving time at 2 a.m. Sunday April 29, with clocks in Clermont and most state areas advancing one hour despite a textual misprint. Remember to set clocks forward by one hour.
The second hearing on a proposed sales tax will be held Friday April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Building third floor Riverside Drive Batavia. The tax could raise 600000 to 1000000 annually for the county and would fund a new jail as ordered by a federal judge plus other capital projects.
Milford Clermont County hosts the Southwest Ohio Beekeeper's Association meeting on Thursday April 26 at 8 p.m. in the basement meeting room of the Clermont National Bank located at 1 275 and SR 28. The public is invited.
The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America will conduct a paper drive in the Mt Carmel area on April 28. Residents are asked to place papers on their front porches for pickup by volunteers.
A Batavia meeting to set priorities and funding for the Community Action Commission will be held Wednesday May 2 at 7 30 PM at the CG E Building Batavia. James Taylor director of Human Services says funding totaling over 160000 dollars will be earmarked mainly for medical and dental clinics.
Batavia High School Alumni Association schedules its annual dinner for Saturday May 19 at Batavia Junior High on Broadway Street. An hour of get acquainted time starts at 6 p.m. Dinner follows at 7. A choir festival and worship service join Loom Freahmaston Churches and Mt. Washington Presbyterian with child, bell, and instrumental groups from Mt. Carmel United, Christ United, and Mt. Washington Presbyterian. A fellowship hour follows. public invited. Also, CNE Boosters host a pancake breakfast April 29 at St. Louis School Hall, Owensville, 9 am to 2 pm. Adults $2, children $1, proceeds support booster activities.
Clermont County commissioners on Thursday adopted a revised tax abatement policy for reinvestment areas. The Ford Motor Co policy tweak sets a minimum 4 to 1 ratio of taxes generated after abatement to existing taxes, replacing the prior 200 percent rule. Changes emphasize input from officials and hearings and reference Ohio Revised Code criteria to prevent misunderstandings between involved parties.
Clermont Governor James A and Ford Motor Co officials discussed water and sewer tap in fees for the $500 million plant at Afton. No conclusion reached as more technical information is needed before a follow up meeting in 10 to 14 days. State negotiations may exempt Ford from some charges, but local rules may require revamping. Ford will use about 1.5 million gallons of water daily when operations start.
Clermont County residents show little interest in a proposed one half percent sales and use tax to fund capital projects including a new jail. Hearings attracted few attendees, with supporters urging passage to meet obligations. critics called for funding alternatives. If approved, the tax would start July 1 and apply to county purchases with some exemptions, and a ballot referendum could be sought within 30 days after passage.
Four people face trial on welfare fraud charges in Clermont County bringing the total indicted to four. Audrey P. Donley, 58, is accused of unlawfully obtaining 1276 dollars in General Relief in 1977 and 1978. Lewis L. Lightner, 37, allegedly received 1122 dollars in General Relief in 1976 and 1977 and faces trial May 4. Patricia J. Brown, 34, is charged with 612 dollars in Aid to Dependent Children in 1976 and 1977 and remains imprisoned after probation revocation. Mayford Mullins, 37, is charged with 5006 dollars in Aid to Dependent Children in 1977 and 1978. A fugitive warrant exists for Sherry Powers, 22, formerly of Batavia, who was sentenced in January 1978 for theft of a welfare check and later reported to begin serving her sentence.
