Clermont School Man Elected NEA Delegate

Clermont County Superintendent of Schools Harry R. Moore was chosen by teachers and administrators to represent seven southwestern Ohio counties Adams Brown Butler Clermont for the National Education Association Convention in Seattle Washington in late June ballots processed by the Ohio Education Association.

County Approves Gas Main Work In Clermont County

Commissioners approved a six inch gas main along Old Rt 74 from Rt 72 at Willowville to Bauman Lane to supply Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co. with gas for Batavia. The route includes a tunnel under Willowville’s Rt 32 and hinges on state approval and Batavia Township consent. Excavation for CGE headquarters near Batavia post office began Thursday. Engineer Carl H Rush will supervise relocation of Gibson Rd in Goshen Twp. Dr Carl A Minning serves as Clermont Medical Society delegate to the Ohio State Medical Association meeting April 26.

Bids Sought for Goshen Junior High Heating Project

Sealed bids to recondition the existing heating and ventilating system at Goshen Junior High will be received until noon May 20 at the office of Kathryn G McHenry clerk of the Goshen board of education. Specifications are on file at the clerk's office per John B Davisson board president.

Retarded School Location Sought in Batavia

D R Dawbenmire of the Ohio Department of Industrial Relations informs county commissioners the Main St Batavia school for the retarded ren does not meet building codes and must not be used after May 29. Commissioners are considering several possible locations for the school. Plans for the Union township sewage system cost 3.1 million and a government grant will cover about half. Sketches for a courthouse addition by Carl H Rush were given to Stein kamp and Nordloh to prepare cost estimates and feasibility.

Asphalt Plant Proposed in Pierce Township Faces Zoning Rebuff

LOCUST CORNER A proposed 500000 asphalt plant in Pierce township appears doomed after the Clermont County zoning commission denied a change from recreation to industrial use for an 18 acre tract along the Clermont Hamilton line near U S 52 and the Ohio River. The matter may go to the trustees, who would need unanimous approval, and one trustee has shown opposition. The Hamilton County Rural Zoning Commission is set to rule on the county portion amid prior resistance from Hamilton County.

Permt Locations Dwindle In County

Clermont County operates 359 retail permits across about 184 locations in 1964 down from 374 permits in 1963. The largest class is C-2 with 93 permits for carry out beer and wine. Other totals include D-1 85, D-4 56, D-2 46, D-3 41, D-3A 6, D-4 4, D-5 28.

4 H Club Hears Talk On Safety In Owensville

The Sew N Sews 4 H Club held its April 14 meeting with Catherine Sommer giving a safety talk. Demonstrations showed how to bathe a baby by Nancy Carrier and Martha Homan. Janet Rosselot and France Henman presented on hemming a tea towel. The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. April 30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Larkin per Cathy Schmid.

Ground Breaking For Pierce Townships New Building

Ground breaking ceremonies were held Wednesday for Pierce Township's new $899,779 building on an 8.3 acre tract on Locust Corner Rd. Trustee Harley Clark and other officials attended as contractors Light Construction Co. and Nelson-Smith Co. were awarded the bid.

Clermont County PTA Council met at Clermont Northeastern High School. Officers elected include President Mrs Russell Anderson Williamsburg and first vice president Mrs William Charles Amelia Jr and Sr High, with second vice president Harry Moore County Superintendent. The panel outlined Prom Night planning rules and Northeastern High School arrangements including no car policy, bus transport, chaperones, formal dance, bowling, and breakfast after events. A separate card party is planned at St Philo mena Church on April 26 with refreshments.

Flags lowered to half staff for Lt Col Sardis

State highways department lowered flags to half staff from Sunday April 19 to Wednesday April 22 in memory of Lt Col Samuel Sardis an Ohio Highways engineer and Army Reservist who died in the April 18 mid air crash near Wilmington. He served in Cincinnati and Middletown and lived at 6785 Ken Arbe Drive Kenwood.

On Tuesday, April 14, five Batavia senior girls Nancy Lawdon Janet Martin Mary Ann Smith Joan Napier and Pat Sparks visited Western and Southern Life Insurance in Cincinnati. Mrs Mary Wolfer led the tour. They viewed departments, had lunch, and completed tests in mathematics typing and spelling before interviews and job applications.
