Five Clermont seniors top state Senior Scholarship test

Five Clermont county high school seniors achieved the highest scores on the Senior Scholarship Test held April 2 in Batavia. The top scorer was Harry Walter Lampe of Owensville with 301 points, followed by Warren Albert Rocquet of Owensville and Robert Allen Gibson of Amelia tied at 260, Lucille Meranda of Moscow with 232, and Paul William Munford of Milford tied at 232. The high scorers will receive college scholarships some covering up to four years. Sixteen county seniors took the test.

Clermont County Baseball League Forms for 1938 Play

At a Batavia courthouse meeting the Clermont County Baseball League announced 1938 members Owensville Francis Garage Chile Hi-Ports Goshen Civic Builders Hamersyville Locust Ridge Fayetteville Perry A. C. Mt. Crab and Moscow. Play runs May 1 to July 31 with a three game elimination series to crown county champion. Events include fungo hitting and base running drills. Surveying Begins Today on Batavia Main Street Right of Way

The city will survey a $100000 right of way on Batavia Main Street starting today. Mayor J M Wise announced the project, with Frank Galbreath directing the survey as Resident State Highway Engineer. The job is expected to take about one week to complete.

Felicity Youth Suffers Injury in Pitchfork Accident

Edwin Lanham age 14 of Felicity was injured when George Longworth 19 accidentally drove a tine of a pitchfork into his right hand late Saturday night. A physician treated the wound with tetanus serum.

Masonic Dedication At Higgins Port Amid Large Crowd

A large crowd gathered Saturday night in Higgins port to dedicate the new Masonic temple replacing the one lost in last year’s flood. Grand Master Blakemore of Cincinnati presided with Clyde Cox of Lovely land district deputy assisting. Rev. E. L. Smith of Batavia served as acting chaplain. Loyal Workers Sunday school class provided dinner. Mr. Oren of Washington D. C. displayed pictures of the George Washington Memorial.

Fisher cited for fishing without license in Route 50 case

Frank W. Stagg arrested Peter Wendell age 19 of Route 50 for fishing without a license. Wendell pleaded guilty and was fined $10 and costs by Justice J. M. Wiseman. He was given time to pay and released.

Total collections show Clermont collected 46 144 dollars on delinquent real estate during the payment period with 31 151 pledged and 7 490 in partial payments totaling 84 785 dollars already accounted for.

The Clermont County Commissioners in regular session approved relief allocations from the county treasury to 14 township clerks for February expenditures. Mrs. Ella Vaughn Funeral Set for Salamanca Service

The 85 year old Mrs. Ella Vaughn who died Sunday night will have a Batavia service before a 2 PM Wednesday funeral in Salamanca at the Methodist church. She came to Batavia last year with her brother Rev. George Johnson. interment follows in Elliottville, NY beside her husband.

Mrs J F Moore Dies at Mocksville

Funeral services were held for Mrs. J. F. Moore 64 at Mocksville Methodist Church. She died Sunday in Salisbury after two weeks illness. Survived by husband J W Moore of Salisbury and five children including P K Moore of Batavia and J W Moore of Chicago. Burial in Mocksville Cemetery.

Margaret Houser Dies in Felicity at 82

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Houser, 82, who died at her Felicity home late Friday night, were held Monday at 2 pm. Burial followed in Sewanie cemetery. Survivors include two sons John Houser and Roy Houser, two brothers James and George Jennings, two sisters Mrs. Charles Shinkle and Mrs. Elizabeth Ware, two grandsons, five granddaughters, and one great granddaughter.

District Conference Set for Greenfield Ohio

Batavia High School has been admitted to membership in the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, announced by Frank Hoggatt, Superintendent. Under Superintendent Paul K. Emma Walker Erion rites set in Batavia church

Funeral services for Emma Walker Erion 80 widow of Milford Waterworks’ first superintendent are planned for Wednesday afternoon at United Brethren Church Batavia. She died Sunday in Milford at her daughter Dora Hermann’s home. She was a longtime Batavia United Brethren member and Milford Eastern Star leader with ties to Rebekahs Caldron and Oola Khan Auxiliary. Reds Open Season at Crosley Field Against Cubs

The Reds host the Cubs at Crosley Field for opening series Tuesday through Thursday before a three games on the road with the Pirates.
