Grant Centenary Celebrations to Honor Ulysses S Grant

Woman's Club Program Planned for April Meeting

Mrs. Bishop will host the Woman's Club Friday April 21 at 7 30 p m. The program includes Nature in the Psalms presented by Mrs Kain, Nature in the New Testament, and Shepherd Life in the Old Testament by Miss Townsley.

Death of Batavia post office clerk Cora Griffis

Miss Cora Griffis died at her Batavia home after a six day illness. Former Batavia schoolteacher and longtime clerk at the Batavia post office, she was a Presbyterians church member. Survived by one brother and two sisters, funeral Tuesday from her sister Mrs. T L Hamilton home, burial in Union cemetery. Also noted storm cloud burst at Stonelick Craver town with high creek levels and a Bethel man losing a finger from a ring on a jumping accident last week.

A Washington dispatch in the Cincinnati Enquirer says C C Kearns will be appointed United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio to succeed Thomas H. Morrow. If appointed, Col D Q Morrow of Cincinnati would seek the Republican nomination for Congress. Mr Morrow is expected to pursue the nomination.

Clermont County Sunday School Holds Batavia Convention

The Clermont County Sunday School Association plans its annual convention in Batavia on May 6 and 7 at the Methodist church. Divisional conferences will be at United Brethren and Presbyterian churches. A pageant at town hall, a banquet at the Armory Friday at 6 p.m., and a ladies reach for attendance with May 1 RSVP are announced. Eighth Grade Examination Set For Batavia Students

The examination for Eighth grade pupils will be held at the school building in Batavia Ohio on Saturday April 29 at 8 30 a m. It is for all county eighth graders not in a high school district. Seventh graders will not be admitted.

Band Honored With Seat of Honor for Presidential Visit

Grant Memorial committee informs Manchester school band they hold the seat of honor for the upcoming ceremonies. The band travels from Manchester at 4 a.m. aboard the Homer Smith to Cincinnati, then transfers to the Island Queen to accompany President Harding to Point Pleasant. The band will perform during the exercises.

Repair the Roads in Clermont County

Critics urge county and town officials to use graders to smooth bad sections then fill holes with gravel or nap stone not resurfacing. Teamsters would shovel from loads to fix multiple holes, improving travel and satisfaction. The plan seeks immediate patching over extended resurfacing.

Cannery Fire Destroys Williamsburg Plant

A Williamsburg cannery was destroyed by fire about 11 o clock Friday night. Firefighter and town aid saved machinery and stock. The McNutt Cain company ownership and gratitude to Mrs Williams and daughter Ella for books and valuables. The fire’s cause is uncertain with rumor lightning or passing freight. The Ohio Chair Co. site houses McNutt headquarters now.

Clermonter Appointed State Agriculturist in Ohio

Edwin H. Sidwell of Clermont County has been named State Agriculturalist in Ohio. He will oversee all farm lands and livestock across state institutions, determine crops, feeding, and management as if owner of the properties, marking a major public farming role.

Legion entertains Batavia post at Clermont Hotel

The Frank W. Weaver Post American Legion of Batavia held a Wednesday evening reception and supper at the Clermont Hotel. Hostess Edith Miller decorated the dining room with American Flags and flowers. After dinner the members enjoyed a smoker and shared World War I memories, thanking the hostess as they departed.

American Legion Barn Dance Near Olive Branch

Members of the Batavia American Legion plan a barn dance at the Stetaneous residence on the old Hunt farm near Olive Branch. The barn offers 82 by 160 feet of floor space and a radio system will be installed for the event. Date to be announced.

Former Batavian Leonard Holland Rust Dies at 90 in Red Cloud

Leonard Holland Rust, a former Batavian, died at his Red Cloud Nebraska home on March 28 1922 at age 90. He went west in 1877 with his sons and resided there since leaving many warm friends. He left several children and his wife Sarah Troy.
