With most receiving plants closed, the Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association will take time to apportion the second distribution of funds from crop sales. Secretary H L Early said 75,000 checks must be written, though he noted there are not 75,000 members. many assignments secure bank loans. Contracts continued, 2385 contracts for 642,000 lbs were filed, with signatories largely voluntary, from counties including Pendleton and Lewis among others.

John D. Rogers born October 12 1836 in Clermont County lived much of life in Afton and Williamsburg. He married Elizabeth J. Davidson. she died June 25 1907. They had eight children and many descendants. He served in the 1583 Ohio Infantry and fought at Harper’s Ferry Bermuda Hundred and Hammock Hill. he died in Batavia after care by his daughter Mrs Henry Fike. funeral at Afton M B Church with burial at William.

No official program issued yet for the Grant centennial with ceremonies at Point Pleasant birthplace of General Grant.
