One to Ten Years Sentenced in Ohio Indebtedness Case

George Maxfield former deputy county auditor and Charles Pringle president of Pringle Construction were sentenced to one to ten years at the Ohio Penitentiary by Judge Charles White for presenting false evidence of indebtedness. B L Ketchum pled not guilty with bond set at 7500. May 7 set for trial. others await further action. Felicity junior Joseph Frederick Long tops county scholarship list with 287 of 400.

Special Election Set For Three School Districts On April 23

A special election will occur April 23 in Tate Jackson and Ohio Townships to decide a current year levy to cover operating debts. If approved, funds will be collected with June taxes 1935. The failure to carry last November left deficits and cut state aid eligibility.

Milford Student Tops Clermont County Eighth Grade Test

John N. Gatch of Milford won the Clermont County Eighth Grade exam held March 29 with a score of 176 percent. A total of 510 pupils participated and the upper quarter will receive county certificates. several may earn district and state honors.

Southern Ohio lawmakers back fish and game bill in house

Conservation-minded citizens in Southern Ohio approve a bill by Representatives Marshall Aible and John Hayden. The measure, already passing the house 103 to 3, would grant the State Conservation Council power to zone and regulate hunting and fishing. A second bill would cut fishing licenses from 1.00 to 50 cents.

Williamsburg junior wins fourth district American Legion essay prize

Lillian Hook, a Williamsburg high school junior, takes first place in the fourth district essay contest for ninth graders on Why I Am Glad I Am An American. The district includes Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Warren, Butler and Clinton counties. District winners advance to state finals and travel to Washington, D. C. for the competition.

Batavia High School announces Baccalaureate services April 21 at Batavia Methodist Episcopal Church. Senior class play April 25 at Batavia Town Hall. Commencement April 26 at Town Hall with Dr. Howard F. Seely from Ohio State University as speaker. Tickets for plays and commencements go on sale April 17 and 22 respectively. An annual senior dance at Batavia Armory is scheduled for April 26 after doors open 9:30 PM.

Mrs. Jennie Snook of Hennings Mills will celebrate her 100th birthday on April 18. Dr. Thompson of Bethel turns 100 on July 6. Neighbor John Wn. Moyer died recently after marking his 100th birthday in September.

Batavia High Earns Prefatory Status With Cincinnati University

Batavia Public Schools superintendent Paul K Moore reports Batavia High School’s strong record has earned a place on the University of Cincinnati’s preferred list for college bound students. Similar recognition came from Miami University last year. The district credits citizen support, board leadership, and faculty effort for recent improvements in both elementary and high schools, with ongoing plans for yearly progress.

Clermont County Committee Purchases Two Wheelchairs

The Clermont County Infantile Paralysis Committee purchased two wheel chairs for victims of infantile paralysis. Proceeds from the President's Birthday Ball at the Batavia Armory on January 30th, 70 percent of the net went to the local committee, totaling 225.50 dollars for Clermont County, aiding those not fully recovered.

Amelia High School Commencement Schedule Outlined

Baccalaureate service for the graduating class is set for Sunday night April 21 at 8 in the school auditorium with Rev George Reed delivering the address. On Wednesday night April 24 at 8 the class will present the three act play The Go Getter. Commencement exercises occur Friday night April 26 at 8 with Rev H O Folger of Indianapolis First Friends Church giving the address. Admission to the class play and commencement is 25 cents with reserved seats on sale in the superintendent's office starting Monday morning April 22 at 8.

Batavian Elected Loveland Farm Loan Officer

Forrest E. Ely of Batavia was elected secretary-treasurer of the Loveland National Farm Loan Association on April 8, succeeding A. M. Hatcher of Loveland who resigned. Ely will handle Federal Farm Loan applications from Clermont County residents at Batavia, moving the office closer to southern farmers. The Batavia office will process applications to the Federal Land Bank of Louisville and the Land Bank Commissioner.

Minstrel Show Set for Mt Carmel Schoolhouse
