Petition Seeks Removal of County Home Superintendent

Petition asks county commissioners to remove the County Home superintendent near Batavia. The resignation withdrawal was ruled improper, leaving the official in charge without county approval or pay since January 1, 1948. The petition also seeks his family moved from the superintendent’s apartment and notes alleged bond deficiencies. Commissioners named are Manly Hill Ernest Ruffner and Homer.

Swine Tour Set for County April 20

Ohio State University swine specialist Herbert Barnes will join county agent W. W. Hamilton for a swine tour on April 20. Six veterans' classes at Felicity, Goshen, Owensville, Will, and Will parale 3 aim to help farmers learn housing and management of swine drawing interest from attendees.

Batavia Men Caught After High Speed Truck Chase

State Patrolman Mark Trees pursued a runaway truck on Route 74 near Roudebush Lane. Richard Richards and Jess Beebe, both Batavia residents, were captured after a gunshot fired by Trees. The truck was returned to owner Gerald Iles after the chase ended. Richards was fined for driving without a license and resisting arrest.

Lakeview Dance Hall Destroyed by Fire Near Amelia

Fire destroyed the Lakeview Dansant near Amelia on Saturday causing over 30000 in loss. The 50 by 125 foot frame building housed a dance hall and rear second floor apartment where the fire began per proprietor Goebel Ellis. Insurance covered 7000 on the building. fixtures and stock were uninsured. Amelia and Williamsville fire departments failed to save any part. A veterans dance was planned for that evening and Clyde Trask was booked for April 24. Mrs Ellis said the hall would not be rebuilt but a restaurant would be constructed.
