State Patrolman Mark Trees pursued a runaway truck on Route 74 near Roudebush Lane. Richard Richards and Jess Beebe, both Batavia residents, were captured after a gunshot fired by Trees. Lakeview Dance Hall Destroyed by Fire Near Amelia
Fire destroyed the Lakeview Dansant near Amelia on Saturday causing over 30000 in loss. The 50 by 125 foot frame building housed a dance hall and rear second floor apartment where the fire began per proprietor Goebel Ellis. Insurance covered 7000 on the building. fixtures and stock were uninsured. Amelia and Williamsville fire departments failed to save any part. A veterans dance was planned for that evening and Clyde Trask was booked for April 24. Mrs Ellis said the hall would not be rebuilt but a restaurant would be constructed.
