Speaker Chosen For Homemaker Achievement Day

Mrs. S.8. Studebaker of Tipp City Ohio selected as speaker for the county wide Homemakers Achievement Day to be held in Batavia on April 13. She is secretary of the National Home Demonstration Council and former president of the Ohio Demonstration Council. The program starts at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical United Brethren Church with a noon covered dish luncheon. All homemakers of the county are invited.

Republican Tax Cut Bill Aims to Ease Burden on Low Earners

The 1948 tax measure, backed by Rep. Edward McCowen and Rep. George Bender, slashes income taxes by over 4.7 billion and retroactively to January 1. It relieves 1.4 million low income filers from taxation, raises personal exemptions, allows income splitting, and offers higher standard deductions for joint and single filers plus extra exemptions for blind or 65 plus taxpayers. Ludlow Buys Batavia Meat Market From Fishback

Carl Ludlow former Batavia Kroger meat manager buys the Fishback Meat Market on Main Street and will assume ownership April 19. Larry Brown will take over Ludlow’s Kroger duties, previously at Milford. Earl Fishback ran the Batavia shop for almost 40 years.

Optometrist Opens Office in Batavia

Beginning Saturday April 10 an optometrist will serve Batavia and nearby areas. Dr Frank Rolf of Cincinnati will visit Batavia every Saturday afternoon and be at the Watch Repair Shop on Main Street. Office hours are 3 PM to 7 PM with appointments possible any day. Dr Rolf has practiced since 1916 mainly in Cincinnati.

Williamsburg Hosts Fourth District Legion Conference May 2

The American Legion Fourth District conference will be held May 2 at the Williamsburg School. Hamilton, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton and Warren counties are members. Commander Harry Donaworth says final plans are underway with two sessions and a meal by the Ladies Auxiliary. Three Williamsburg residents will receive the Medal of Heroism for rescuing a girl from drowning. one man died in the attempt. Carnegie Hero Fund rewards were announced for his widow. Four high school students from the district will receive state honors in the Legion essay contest.

A Moscow High School minstrel program directed by Mr and Mrs Robert Ketcham will be staged Thursday at 8 00 p m in the school building. Junior Order council places fifth in state contest

The Mt. Carmel Council of the Junior Order United American Mechanics placed fifth among 250 Ohio councils in a 1947 membership drive announced by Fred Mourey state secretary. The council grew 214 percent and will receive the Traveling Gavel trophy. Chester and South Webster tied for second with 100 percent gains. Felicity was third with 63.8 percent. Mourey called the 197 member campaign among the 94 year old fraternity one of its most successful.
