Police Chief Ed Colonel leads a Batavia survey seeking input on traffic lights on Main Street and parking layouts. The discussion weighs angular versus parallel parking, time limits, and meters to improve space, flow, and safety amid business district congestion.
A Bethel Lions Club event presents a mock criminal trial in the Bethel School Auditorium at 8 p m on May 28. Notable participants include Judges Harry Britton and Orville Halbish of Clermont County, and Joseph Bagby and James Johnson of Brown County.
Longview Hospital in Clermont County plans to place fairly recovered patients in private homes. The hospital provides clothing and supervises care, while the Welfare Department pays $11.50 weekly to the accepting family. If unsatisfactory, patients return to the hospital. The Home Demonstration Club No. 4 held its April 12 meeting at Lindale Baptist Church adding three new members. Officers elected were Leader Mrs Ray Cornell Assistant Leader Mrs Lester Betts Secretary Treasurer Mrs Bess O'Brien and Publicity Agent Mrs Ben Cross. Members of the county council include Mrs George Sheppard and Mrs Harold Davis. The club attended the Country Achievement meeting at Batavia EUB Church. The Amelia Baptist Church hosts a Bible conference April 26 to 30 at 8:00 pm with Harmon Eggleston speaker. 4 H girls from Williamsville and Tabasco visited the Art Museum Saturday April 11.
Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met in Georgetown at the First Methodist Church Sunday School room. Twenty five members attended including several from Claremont County and Miss Lena Livingston gave a review of Fr. Van Wyck Mason's Eagle in a later session. They accepted an invitation to Alpha Beta at Portsmouth for their Founders Day luncheon on May 8.
The Union Home Demonstration Club met at Summerside Church on April 14. Officers elected for the year are Mrs Roy Madcox president, Mrs Ellsworth Long vice president, Mrs Earl Watkins secretary treasurer, Mrs O W Mc Bride councillor, with Mrs George Nash staying another year. Miss Joy May Warner gave a Color lesson. Next meeting set for May 12 at the church.
Evangelist Rev Harold Wainscott will lead a revival at Forest Baptist Church Owensville starting April 26 at 7 45 each evening through May 7 The church is on Stonelick Road Work begins on a new Owensville church to be completed soon
Representative John Hayden announces a steel truss bridge on State Route 122 Stonelick township at an estimated cost of 29000 dollars. The Ohio Department of Highways will let the construction contract on May 11.
The annual roundup will be at New Richmond School on Tuesday April 27 starting at nine in the morning. Parents with children entering school in September are urged to bring them for a physical checkup. William G. Glancy of Goshen ranked high in Ohio State University engineering during the winter quarter.
Scouts of Clermont County take part in the 126th anniversary celebration of General U. S. Grant's birth in Point Pleasant on Sunday April 25. Wallace H. Maw will deliver the Pledge of Allegiance. Eagle Scout Jerry White of Amelia presents "The Boyhood of U. S. Grant" and Star Scout Richard Speidel of Batavia presents "Grant at West Point."
Robert L. Kittridge of Milford Ohio builds skiffs prams dinghys and other water craft in a small shop on Water Street He runs the operation himself currently but may hire help later His vessel Haggerty Seashell is popular for rowing and light motor use His wife Louise handles bookkeeping and two Labrador retrievers keep house in the shop and office He hopes the venture grows to create local employment and add another industry to Milford.
Bethel High School senior class will present The Phantom Dirigible a mystery comedy in three acts directed by Robert M. Richards in the school auditorium Friday April 23 The cast includes Eva Manners Joyce Neal Beatrice Larrimore Katherine Harry Lucia Baron and others with stage managers Robert Bailey and Charles Jacobs. Dr Allan B Rapp Clermont County Coroner will chair the annual Ohio State Coroners Association meeting in Columbus May 11 13.
Mrs. Mary Steelman of Milford spent the weekend with her grandson Eugene Philhower and family on Tovenco Road.
VFW Post 3954 sponsors a variety show at 8 o clock on April 24 in Batavia school auditorium. Goshen Choral group presents with director Johnny Woll of Goshen a WWII flying ace. The program will feature songs jokes and specialty numbers.
Clermont County approves a comprehensive sanitary code to regulate water supply and waste disposal. All residents must follow the new health provisions with permits required in many cases. G. L. Smith of Williamsburg serves as County Sanitarian.
Miss Wilhelmina Faul, 81, retired teacher and daughter of the late Frederick and Belle Faul, died at home in Batavia on April 19 after a two week illness. She taught in Batavia, Lockland, Berea, and Amelia and last served at Lincoln Institute in Kentucky. Services were held at Moore Funeral Home with burial in Batavia Cemetery.
W. O. Sanders of Cincinnati praised the sycamore in front of the Batavia Courthouse after finishing trimming and feeding the trees last weekend. He called it the largest and best preserved specimen of its kind he has seen in Ohio or Indiana.
Donald Vornholt of New Richmond was cleared by a directed verdict in Clermont County Common Pleas Court on a forgery charge. He received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to writing a check without sufficient funds. The session also listed upcoming cases including Rhode vs Koehl and State vs Arley Dallas Jones with dates in late April.
County Commissioners approved painting contracts for Batavia buildings. Willis Johnson of Amelia won $1,410 to paint interior and exterior of the jail. Estil Whitt of Batavia will paint the annex interior and exterior for $1,500. William Faris of Batavia receives $246.50 to paint the courthouse and $57.50 for the service building.
The Clermont County Republican Woman's club meeting scheduled for Monday evening April 19 at Milford Town Hall has been postponed to Monday evening April 26. Archer Riley, secretary to Governor Herbert, will be the speaker.
Amelia High School senior class presents a three act comedy Dear Papa on Friday April 30. The wacky Carr family indulges after Aunt Lucinda inherits fifty thousand dollars only to learn she is not the rightful heir, but she has spent the money. The cast includes JoAnh Jeffries, Bill McCarty, Margaret Shumate, Don Ramsey, Charles Hyser, Jean Hogue, Helen John, Bill Waddell, Alan White, Markie Slye, Romilda Neder, Thelma Davis.
A barn meeting for farmers is scheduled for 8 30 p m April 27 at the George A Larkins farm two and a half miles south of Bethel on Route 133. The county agent office sponsors the event to provide up to date sheep care methods. Ohio State University specialist L M Bear will demonstrate docking castrating parasite treatment and discuss shearing and dipping.
As Ohio rivers fall, Clermont residents return to homes to wash and repair. Red Cross and officials praise coordinated evacuation and shelter efforts. New Richmond hosts a disaster center at Locust Corner School with registration for aid. health warns boiling water and careful food handling.
Clermont County Pomona Grange No 227 will meet at 8 o clock Saturday evening April 24 at Mt Carmel with Mt Carmel Grange as host. W R Owen of Bethel will preside over the business meeting.
