A promotional offer invites the first customer who visits the shop in Clermont County Newtown or Cincinnati before Tuesday noon to mention this feature and receive a merchandise order. The reward targets the first face to face meeting with the proprietor.
Courier advertises a weekly $5 prize for identifying a featured store proprietor shown in a photo. The clue photo appears at a local business for a week, with prize increases if not won. Stores may be anywhere in the area from Loveland to Felicity, Goshen to Newtown.
A 12 year old Batavia area boy has stolen bicycles on six occasions over three years. Police Chief Ed Colonel says the boy is crazy about a bicycle but his parents are too poor to buy one. The chief plans to find him a used bike, while the boy attends a special school and returns home for the summer.
The Ohio Board of Liquor Control continued the hearing on February 1 alleged sale to a minor by The Hut owner Thelma Irene Robinson. Robinson holds a CL 1 2 0 5 permit for a night club at State Route 74 Willowville.
The domestic and industrial arts departments host an open house for the PTA meeting at 8 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Edmund Parrott's shop class runs from 8 to 9 30 p.m. and Mrs Friend's class will be open for visitors.

Charles J. Whitmer of Owensville 72 prominent banker and businessman died suddenly at his sister’s home in Williamsburg. He led Merchants and Farmers Bank Batavia owned W I Trucking Co Batavia and belonged to Tri Con Distributing Norwood. He was a Mason and Methodist. He is survived by wife Cynthia a son Nelson two sisters and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are with J Isaac Maham Williamsburg.
A Batavia deputy reports that Bobby Rhoades 23 says he could not stop when his vehicle struck Lilly Woodall. Mrs Woodall died. Rhoades was not charged. Another Saturday night crash near Bissantz Sales barn involved Roy Wood 25 who submitted to a sobriety test and was found not intoxicated. A rash of accidents suggests spring.
Amelia Police Chief Ed Nehus and Harold Brunk form the Amelia Pacemakers to teach young drivers responsibility. Twenty five boys attended the first meeting at the BMOP fire house. Officers named were Robert Hall as head of government and safety and Jackie Henderson as secretary treasurer. The motto Safety on the Highways was adopted and a drag strip option was discussed. Membership open to any licensed driver and Nehus expects over 100 members soon. Nellie Mattox and Paul Biffle endorsed the club.
J Mark Radel of Cincinnati bound over to Clermont County grand jury Friday night after pleading innocent to dumping garbage without a permit. The warrant by Al Kistner charged violations of the state health code and a county Board of Health order to close the dump. The board ordered closure last September and Radel had a temporary injunction set aside. A new trial motion was set aside March 26. the dump remains in operation as he appeals to the appellate court. The dump serves Clermont and eastern Hamilton counties.
Walt Kunz highway builder and head of several corporations accepts invitation to address Batavia Business Men's Association on April 22. Topic includes State Rt. 74 improvement and Rt. 101 widening. Association weighs road plans and a temporary Rt. 125 fix amid funding concerns.
Five persons suffered injuries in a three car collision on Rt. 74 one mile west of Williamsburg. Injured were Adrian Sprague 23 Batavia Ronald Sprague 13 Batavia Roy Wood 25 Batavia Virginia Wood 28 Batavia Ida Wood 50 Batavia. The Wood car struck Leonard Glover 16 Batavia whose vehicle was then forced into the Sprague car.
The Amelia Chamber of Commerce began with a village meeting in the Amelia school cafeteria. Harold L. Windeler was named president with R N Foley as vice president and Mary Bissantz as secretary and Herbert Jeffries as treasurer.
Frank Bowers of Rt. 1 Amelia has been placed on the midterm honor roll at Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee Illinois. Dean Willis K. Snowbarger announced the recognition today.
