Vocational School Levy Defeated In Greater Cincinnati

The bond to fund two vocational schools in Cincinnati area counties trailed by a strong margin. Of 429 reported precincts, 22 773 opposed the issue versus 14 458 in favor. Milford and Loveland districts in Clermont County voted against the bond, while Milford plans an $8 per thousand operating levy and Loveland a $6.31 per thousand renewal levy in May.

Baptist Church Launches Large Building Program

First Baptist Church Mt Repose announces a 110000 construction plan to remodel the existing educational space add a two story 5600 square foot building with 16 classrooms a kitchen and fellowship hall. Construction to start immediately with fall completion. architect Jack Gore and contractor Merrill Whitaker of Cincinnati oversee the project.

Batavia Officials Seek Details on Proposed New Town

Batavia mayor Richard Jamieson and planning chief Myles Elston told county commissioners they want full updates on plans around Batavia. They expressed concern over proposals including Grant Park, the Clermont Industrial Parks new town, East Fork Reservoir, and the county airport as they push to protect Batavia’s master plan.

County's First Woman Recorder Taken By Death

Funeral services for Mrs. Harriet E. Mofford Knott aged 89 of Norwood were held March 28 at Vorhis Funeral Home with burial in Batavia Cemetery. She died March 25. Born in Laurel she was Clermont County's first woman elected to public office and among the nation’s early female public servants.

Milford Man Heads ECA Laboratories

Milford resident James P. Sheehy was named acting director of the Environmental Control Administration Cincinnati training institute and will coordinate program resources and central services. A $20 million facility is planned near the University of Cincinnati to house about 700 employees.

Burglar Held After Gun Battle In Eaton

In Eaton a gun battle left Kenneth Crowder dead and Raymond Green wounded and jailed on robbery charges. Green, 31, is linked to a Dunlite office equipment theft in Williamsburg and a Felicity Bank robbery, with pursuit extending from Hamilton to Preble County. Crowder was a former brother in law of Green and had just been released from prison. The two had reportedly shared an apartment in Covington Kentucky.

Two Juveniles Held As Adults In Fire In Owensville

Gary McKinney and Larry Curry both 16 and 17 from Owensville are held under $2500 bond as the grand jury weighs arson related charges. Ted Nagel hout eight and Robert A. Porter 18 are jailed awaiting grand jury action after arraignment. Fire destroyed the grandstand early March 9 causing about 300000 dollars in losses. George Mull of the Fair Board and Owensville fire dept found the blaze starting in the center and spreading to ends suggesting a flammable trail. Transfer of juveniles for potential adult jury action is noted as unusual and possibly a Clermont County first.

Hospitals weigh east or west Batavia site for Clermont needs

Clermont Melrose Co and Clermont Industrial Parks proposed 25 acres each east and west of Batavia for the county hospital. The commission plans to name an operator from Cincinnati hospitals and seeks a land donation drive of 25 000 dollars. Sullivan offered option on another 25 acres for future growth and airport parcel terms were adjusted for taxiway placement.

Fair Board Plans Concrete Bleachers Replacement

Clermont County commissioners authorize a $60 000 loan to the County Agricultural Society to replace the burned grandstand at the Fairgrounds with 150 feet of concrete seating, 15 rows high. The loan is secured by Fairgrounds property appraised at $200 000 plus $10 000 fire insurance.

Batavian Woman Receives Red Cross Honor for Volunteer Service

Mrs. Kate D. Buerkle of 60 N Market St Batavia receives a special award from David Pollak Cincinnati Area Chapter Chairman for 25 years of Red Cross service and social welfare work. She devotes eight hours daily helping families of servicemen and aiding disaster victims while serving on the Cincinnati Area Red Cross Board of Directors. John G. Simon II escorted her to the speaker's table at the chapter's volunteer recognition ceremony.
