Easter Egg Hunt to Be Held by Legion and Courier

Batavia area youngsters ages 5 to 10 will search for 1000 Easter eggs at the American Legion post grounds Saturday after noon. The event is sponsored by Frank W. Weaver Post American Legion and The Courier in cooperation with Batavia area past. Eggs, many numbered for prizes, will be hidden by Legionnaires in three age divisions. Tots under four stay in the Legion hall basement with candy treats. Spectators may watch from designated areas. Local prize donors include Smith Radio and TV, Krogers, Jolly Sams, Spaulding's Market, Rosenzweigs, Cann Ford, Danbury's Cafe, Determan's Restaurant, Auxier Gas, The Clermont Courier, Main Delicatessen, Tudor Chevrolet, Pride, Larkin Insurance, Reliable Finance, Liming's Clermont Inn, Blocher's Pharmacy, Anstaett Dodge, City Loan, Western Auto, Bob and Don's Shell, Green Valley, Lewis Distributing, and many others listed.

Officials Tour Little Miami Valley By Air

County commissioners joined area officials and conservation-minded citizens on an aerial flight along the Little Miami River. two planes flew the river from Newtown to Yellow Springs, courtesy of Little Miami, Inc. The group met in Warren County and observed that development exists in Hamilton and Clermont Counties, while upstream in Warren County the river remains increasingly unspoiled.

Public Hearings Set in Union Township Zoning Proposals

Public hearings are scheduled for April 18 in Union Township at Summerside School on two rezoning requests by Rand Amusement Co to convert Summerside property for a drive in theater and by Clermont Industrial Parks Inc to switch from industrial to residential for garden apartments near Olive Branch. Both applications were denied by the zoning commission.

Batavia Mayor Fines Two Men After Gunplay

Batavia Mayor Richard Jamieson fined Lonnie Self 50 dollars and Lawrence D Darnell 25 dollars plus costs for drunken and disorderly conduct after Friday night gunplay on Main Street. Police reports said two shots were fired when the men allegedly tried to pull a 16-year-old from a pickup and a juvenile received a facial cut.

Zone Change OK Nickell Plans Groundbreaking

Zone change approved for 20.1 acres on Old SR 74 in Batavia Township enabling Thomas Nickell to break ground in June for a $75 000 plant in Olive Branch to print pressure sensitive labels and build label machinery. The plan includes a 50 foot buffer and a new industrial zone amid mixed reactions from residents. Nickell cites public support from local trustees and area officials for Clermont County. Linda Rae Nichols posts a perfect 4 0 GPA at Morehead State University marking top of Dean's List for fall term.

Bethel and Tate Monroe reach water supply agreement

Bethel village approves a 40 year water pact with Tate Monroe Water System for 60 000 gallons daily in 1970 rising by 10 000 gallons annually to 110 000 after five years with up to 220 000 gallons available on demand from 1975. The $3.5 million system is funded by Farmers Home Administration loan and charges 40 cents per 1000 gallons. The project includes a new main from Nicholsville elevated tank through Bethel to the water tower.

McCleese appeals prison term in VFW Post armed robbery

Carl McCleese 33 of Georgetown filed an appeal from a 10 to 25 year sentence for armed robbery of the Afton VFW Post last summer. Sgt Harold Kennedy of the Clermont County Sheriff’s Department was praised for his investigative work that helped capture the robbers. Batavia Mayor Richard C. Jamieson said Floyd V. Sells resigned as a patrolman effective April 1 and Chief N C Ward will process new applicants.
