Four area schools release closing events slate

Batavia, Amelia, Williamsburg and Bethel schools announced their year end schedules. Batavia sets Baccalaureate May 19 at United Brethren, graduation May 24, alumni banquet May 25. Amelia lists junior senior banquet May 3 and commencement May 22. Williamsburg plans May 10 reception and May 24 senior play, May 31 commencement with Dr. Turley named potential speaker. Bethel notes junior class boat ride before the April 12 Junior-Senior banquet.

Granges Confer Degrees in Batavia High School Auditorium

Batavia Grange hosts a joint meeting with Batavia Monroe Mt. Carmel and New Richmond Granges on Thursday April 11 at 8 pm in Batavia High School auditorium. The 8th and 4th degrees will be conferred and first and second degree obligations offered. Marie Hawke Amelia Secretary Batavia Grange.

A Batavia resident George Haney aged 65 was held up near Parrott home at 8 pm Saturday and $8 was taken with no clue. The Senior Class play directed by Mrs Jeanne Davison is set for Friday April 26 at 8 pm in the School Auditorium. A Union Baccalaureate service will be held May 19 in the school auditorium with all village churches participating. Commencement for the Senior Class occurs May 21 in the school auditorium with the class in charge. Alumni reunions and banquet tentatively planned for May 24. Tom Danburry accused George Henderson of striking him in the jaw during a misunderstanding on Tuesday night. Henderson was jailed on Danburry's complaint and awaits a hearing before Mayor Wiseman. Deputy Sheriff George Davis made the arrest.

Newtonsville-Hutchinson Road Project Approved

Approval of the Newtonsville Hutchinson Road project was received Saturday from the Cincinnati WPA office. One hundred men will work five months on the first mile crossing Rt. 50 east of Owensville. Total cost 38871 with 27564 federal and 11307 county funds.
