Batavia, Amelia, Williamsburg and Bethel schools announced their year end schedules. Batavia sets Baccalaureate May 19 at United Brethren, graduation May 24, alumni banquet May 25. Amelia lists junior senior banquet May 3 and commencement May 22. Williamsburg plans May 10 reception and May 24 senior play, May 31 commencement with Dr. Turley named potential speaker. Bethel notes junior class boat ride before the April 12 Junior-Senior banquet.
Friday evening April 12 at 8 30 pm Clermont Eagle Hall invites everyone to join with friends for a community bingo event.
Gardeners report spring planting underway with potatoes onions beets cabbage and lettuce in the ground. Tomato seed sown signaling the season’s active growing period.
A special meeting of the Milk Producers Union will be held in the Batavia Court House on Friday evening April 12 at 7 30 pm. Attendance requested by A W Brinkman chairman.
Batavia Grange hosts a joint meeting with Batavia Monroe Mt. Carmel and New Richmond Granges on Thursday April 11 at 8 pm in Batavia High School auditorium. The 8th and 4th degrees will be conferred and first and second degree obligations offered. Marie Hawke Amelia Secretary Batavia Grange.
A Batavia resident George Haney aged 65 was held up near Parrott home at 8 pm Saturday and $8 was taken with no clue. The Senior Class play directed by Mrs Jeanne Davison is set for Friday April 26 at 8 pm in the School Auditorium. A Union Baccalaureate service will be held May 19 in the school auditorium with all village churches participating. Commencement for the Senior Class occurs May 21 in the school auditorium with the class in charge. Alumni reunions and banquet tentatively planned for May 24. The Clermont county Republican meeting was held last Thursday night at Batavia High School Auditorium with a crowded house. Speakers included district and county candidates such as Fitch Jordan Pulley Ringer and Dean Stanley. John Martin and Clara Kimble attended. the Methodist Guild served the banquet.
The Clermont County Tuberculosis and Health Association votes to buy X-ray equipment funded entirely by Christmas Health Seals sales. County Commissioners provide courthouse space for installation to enable early detection and effective fight against tuberculosis.
State lecturer Joseph W. Fichter will headline Marathon Grange's 25th anniversary on April 14. Morning church services, basket dinner at noon, and an afternoon program follow a 10:30 Marathon Church service. Six charter members receive special recognition for 25 years of continuous membership.

Major J F Gest CMTC Chairman reports for the period ending April 1 1940 that Paul Ellis Felicity Earl Rose Felicity and Robert L Schneider R 2 Bethel applied for admission to the CMTC camp to be held at Fort Benjamin Harrison Indiana from July 2 to July 31 1940.
George P. Medary Williamsburg Clermont county dog warden calls on residents to pen stray or strange dogs in a garage and notify him. He urges timely action to ease the warden’s duties and help control rabies risk in the county.
Mt Carmel Glen Este PTA will host a card party in the School Auditorium on Saturday night April 13 at 8 oclock. Mrs L G Jones chairs a prizes for high scores and a door prize with proceeds planned for motion picture equipment for visual education. Helpers include Mrs Irene Sullivan Mrs Ray Blick Mrs A T Rapp and Casper Beck with posters by Stanley McCann refreshments served.
The Amelia Woman's Club gathered Saturday April 6 at Mrs. Russell Behymer's home with Miss Nina Behymer assisting. President Mrs. R A Cropper presided. The program featured trombone solo by Howard Lewis with Rosemary Monjar on piano, a paper on The Picturesque Hudson by Nellie Coleman, vocal solo by Virginia Rain with Elizabeth Walker accompanist, and a paper The Rushing Roaring Colorado by Mrs. Alice Maddox. Mrs F W Ingalls attended as a guest.
The Ladies Aid of the Summerside Methodist Church invites all to a Jitney Supper at 5 P M and a Pageant of Bride's Gowns spanning 1840 to 1940 at 8 P M on Friday April 12 at Summerside Methodist Church.
Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Arthur M. Simmons formerly of Amelia and Batavia. She died April 7 at her daughters home in Madisonville due to thrombosis. Survived by husband Arthur M. Simmons two sons Orie J. Simmons Arthur Glenn Simmons and three daughters Myrtle Flynn Ethelyn Simmons and Betty Simmons. Funeral held April 9 at Thomas Funeral Home Madisonville.
George A. Watson of West Union Adams County announces his candidacy for Republican State Central Committeeman for the Sixth District. He says he was urged by district Republican leaders and will follow the party platform and county committee wishes if elected. Watson, a retired rural mail carrier and lifelong Adams County resident, is a broad landowner active in stock breeding.
Jesse Halbisch a Batavia area farmer suffered a broken ankle when a log rolled from a wagon striking him last week He was treated at Christ Hospital and returned home Monday he is back to work Go to it Jessie.
Tom Danburry accused George Henderson of striking him in the jaw during a misunderstanding on Tuesday night. Henderson was jailed on Danburry's complaint and awaits a hearing before Mayor Wiseman. Deputy Sheriff George Davis made the arrest.
Ora Ferree, township trustee, is in the hospital for treatment for sinus trouble.
The O O F Lodge conferred the initiatory degree on five candidates Friday night with James Fitzpatrick of Bethel lodge directing the work. The degree staff consisted of visitors and members. A work lunch followed and another session is scheduled for April 19. Visitors welcome.
Approval of the Newtonsville Hutchinson Road project was received Saturday from the Cincinnati WPA office. One hundred men will work five months on the first mile crossing Rt. 50 east of Owensville. Total cost 38871 with 27564 federal and 11307 county funds.
Locust Corner Grange holds its next meeting on April 17 with members whose last name initials G H I J asked to assist on the program. A covered dish supper honors new candidates, ladies bring dishes, plus games and contests. Anna Spitzmiller, lecturer.
John C. King of Bethel, a Republican candidate for Clerk of Courts, withdrew from the ballot last week and was appointed as Liquor Store Inspector in the district under the Civil Service department.
