Body of Woman Found In Milford River Mystery Unfolds

Floater found by Eddie Yagen on the Little Miami near Milford leads Sheriff Roberts and deputies to recover a woman’s body from the riffle below town. Coroner Cucliss could not be reached. The unidentified corpse wore a silk dress and black stockings with no shoes. Later identified as Stella OCon nell of Madisonville.

Call of Grand Jury Off and Jail Population

The grand jury call was canceled with notices to appear at Batavia this week as bills were read. Ten inmates, mainly liquor violators, remain jailed with sentences totaling about three years for those serving full terms. Some inmates work on county roads and ditches improving public safety and upkeep.

Reforestation Efforts Begin in Clinton County Area

Clyde Tom and Harold D. Nichols of Batavia buy Bernard Muel farm near Crosstown to plant about 71 acres for reforestation over five years. They will establish 15 000 trees yearly, starting with 25 000 ash, locust, oak and pine varieties. Locust timber to become posts in about a decade, trees raised with State Forestry Department aid, land deemed thin but productive. Locust beetle issue noted, calomel treatment suggested.

County Commissioners Meet Approve Contracts and Road Plans

County commissioners on April 1 approved bids for a Ford contract at 598 with 125 credit for old car and painting probate court for 100. They authorized 200 for Cozaddale road and directed plans for a 1.6 mile traffic bound macadam on Batavia Elktime road. Bids for Culverton Round B Bottom Road were ordered advertised and three miles of Felicity to Brown county line road to be built as Felicity Higginsport pike. Rows Ely awarded 6 per week for dependent child care.

Spray Information Service Aids Clermont County Growers

A spray information service is set up in Clermont County in cooperation with Hamilton County and the State University. P J Kra mer of the extension department will cover both counties during the growing season.
