Clermont County Struggles with Severe Highway Damage

Clermont County officials report a historic level of highway damage from recent floods and weather. Winter and early spring conditions caused many washouts and bridge failures, forcing repairs to be funded only from gasoline tax receipts and auto tag income, potentially down 25 percent in 1943. Officials cannot set a full annual program until income is confirmed, so they will prioritize the worst damaged sections and warn that rough roads will raise tire costs amid rubber shortages.

Soil Conservation Worker Named for Clermont County

Dwight Robison of the Soil Conservation Service is reassigned to Clermont County effective April 1 to work with Roy Battles the county agricultural agent. He will assist farmers with farm food production meetings tours and crop rotation land use erosion drainage water conservation and pasture improvement during wartime to boost food output and soil fertility.

Aged Clermont County Farmer D L Maham Dies in Williamsburg

D L Maham age 92 longtime Clermont county resident died at his home in Williamsburg on Saturday April 3 after a long life in farming and civic affairs. He is survived by grandson J Isaac Maham and granddaughter Mrs Robert Foster of Batavia. his only son Lucian T Maham died last summer.

No More Rationing for Wire Fencing in Clermont County

The State Committee informs the Clermont County Farm Machinery Rationing Committee that wire fencing of all kinds is no longer rationed and dealers may sell wire without purchase certificates. Cream separators up to 800 pounds per hour are also released from county and state quotas.

The Clermont County Medical Society gathered at Tomalee Turn with Dr Warren E Thomas of Milford hosting. Guest speaker Dr Robert E Howard of Cincinnati spoke on ear diseases to benefit local physicians and members including J M Coleman and F S Skeen, followed by a buffet supper.

Married Men In April Draft Call

Clermont County selects undertake April draft calls with Board 1 sending a smaller group to Ft. Thomas and Board 2 planning its April quota for April 14. Married men appear in the calls, and the final list will be published next week. A joint Milford Kiwanis and Batavia Rotary meeting at Gillcroft Inn drew about 25 members from each club. A. Lockland Man Buys Large Farm Near Mt Carmel

Lockland livestock dealer R. T. McKibben is acquiring a 425 acre farm near Mt. Carmel for grazing and breeding beef cattle. The property on the east side of Mt Carmel Milford Road in Union Township has three building sets and road frontage over a mile. Fire service discussion set for Mt. Carmel meeting

Christmas Seal Drive Raises $1600 in Clermont County

Clermont County Christmas Seal sales totaled 1600 this year, up about 200 from typical purchases. Proceeds fund tuberculosis fight locally and statewide with 80 percent staying in Clermont for TB and Health Association work and 20 percent aiding the State Association. Special gifts may add 300 to 400.

Clermont man promoted to factory manager in Cincinnati

Harry Grunewald of Amelia has been promoted to factory manager at Formica Insulation Company in Cincinnati after rising from gear department to night superintendent and assistant production manager. The promotion was announced by D. J. O'Conor following the shareholders and directors meeting.

Clermont County Red Cross reported March 31 that the annual fund drive raised 17 383 00 with a likely final tally in the hundreds. Kerosene Ration Plan Simplified for County

Chairman Ed Saxton of the Clermont County Rationing Board says kerosene for agriculture cooking and lighting will be mailed as renewals for one year from July 1 1943 to June 30 1944. The measure saves time gas and tires by avoiding schoolhouse visits. Institutional users must obtain board allotments by April 10 as wholesalers and retailers adjust stamps and point transfers.
