West Clermont approves school bonds for new high school

West Clermont Local School District signs a contract with Field Richards & Co of Cincinnati to sell 1 124 000 dollars in school bonds at 4 percent interest plus a 7 804 71 premium. Other bidders include Fox Reusch Ohio Co Stranahan Harris. State grant 861 642 funds new high school and additions.

County Girl Named New Junior Red Cross Officer

The Junior Red Cross Council in Cincinnati installed officers at Candlelight marking its eighth anniversary. Frank M. Grieme chaired. new officers include President Kit Rettig and Vice President Carl Bauer. Forty two members were named for service awards with seniors receiving certificates. Local students Christine Worth Paul Ropp Beverly Fisher and Marlene McCoy earned recognition for years of service.

State seeks 46000 for Nike base roads in Clermont County

Joseph Unger requests $46,000 from county funds to build 1.2 miles of two roads to the Nike Missile Base near Felicity. He notes federal aid covers only part of Neville Penn and Fruitridge Road rebuilding, while the county funds are limited and could force dropping or revising plans. The commissioners say federal finance may cover most work but cannot fund the full amount from their road fund.

Thieves break into tavern and steal Easter Seal box

In Williams Corner thieves broke into Mike's Tavern early Friday, took an Easter Seal campaign collection box, and damaged a vending machine. They also consumed whisky. Owner Mike Fry reported the incident. Clermont County Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks and Deputy Richard Carson investigated.

Grant Articles To Be Displayed At County Fair

The Clermont County Historical Society plans a display at the fair with a Civil War centennial theme featuring many articles connected to Ulysses S. Grant born in Point Pleasant. Mrs. Ralph E. Hodges heads the display committee with Sheila Fisher William R. Frye and Don Ison on the panel. The group will mark Grant's 138th birthday on April 27 and the county historical tour set for April has been moved to May by chairman John Angus due to weather considerations.

Auditor Rhodes Set for Batavia Joint Meeting May 17

James A. Rhodes state auditor and co author of Trial of Mary Todd Lincoln will address a Batavia Rotary Club and Batavia Businessmen's Association joint dinner May 17. Wives of members are invited. He will discuss the Holy Land and the social at First Baptist Church Batavia starts at 4 30 p m April 9 for Women's Day benefit.

Loveland History Session By Clermont County Society

The sixth in a series of village history sessions will be held at 8 p.m. Friday April 8 at the Loveland Madeira Road school. Clyde Cox Stanton Brock and Marshall Burtt will speak on the History of the Village of Loveland. Sponsored by the local volunteer fire department VFW and American Legion posts.

Clermont County Music Festival Set For Friday

Owensville reports the Clermont County Music Festival will take place at 8 p.m. Friday April 8 at Clermont Northeastern high school. County school music departments will perform vocal and instrumental numbers with practice at 1 30 p.m. Robert Knauf vocal director from the University of Kentucky will lead vocal numbers and Charles Minelli of Ohio University will direct instrumental groups.

Post Auxiliary Present Flags to Williamsburg Batavia Schools

Clermont County VFW Post 3954 and Auxiliary gave 50 star American flags to Williamsburg and Batavia schools at PTA meetings. Superintendent A R Durso of Williamsburg accepted two outdoor flags and a classroom flag. Principal John P Settles accepted Batavia outdoor and classroom flags.

Moore Dump Controversy Ends in Williamsburg Village Action

The Village of Williamsburg withdrew its opposition to the Moore dump on Greenbrier Road after finding the site operated improperly and noting a county licensed dump in Laurel offered low cost garbage service. A temporary injunction had blocked the Board of Health from closing the site, with a permit hearing slated for Wednesday.

County officials plan pipe culvert on Greenbrier Road

County commissioners Anstaett and Don Ison, with trustee Charles Wright, viewed Greenbrier Road in Batavia Township on Friday afternoon. They agreed to replace a wooden bridge near the VFW property with a pipe culvert and to ditch the road.

Goshen voters weigh 247000 bond for new classrooms

Goshen school district voters will decide at the May 3 primary whether to approve a 247000 bond issue to add four classrooms at the high school and build a seven-room elementary. The plan aims to raise bonded debt to the nine percent limit and would yield 109000 state aid, with a 1.9 mill tax in year one to retire the 23 year issue.

Norwood father and son jailed for shotgun shooting attempt

Mrs Barbara Litteral, 26, sustained a shotgun wound to her hand during a confrontation at the Elk Lick Road home of Donald Henderson near Batavia. Callen Van Winkle and his son Philip were arrested after the 12 gauge gun was leveled at Henderson. Mrs Litteral grabbed the weapon as it discharged. She was taken to Christ Hospital for treatment.

Complaints Drive Road Repairs in Batavia Township

Three Batavia township residents pressed county commissioners Friday over Huntington Ave east of Amelia where cars sank in potholes and tow bills were charged to Batavia township trustees. Trustees later had rock hauled to the street and also improved Lawson Dr west of Amelia. On Tuesday the county maintainer graded Lucy Run Rd in Batavia township.

UC Students Plan Township Survey

University of Cincinnati students Ken Corey and Gordon Howie will survey Union and Jackson townships in Clermont County during spring break starting April 11. They will study subdivision crowding commuting distances zoning land use and related topics with plans to publish full details and photos in The Courier weekend edition.
