Jerry Ashburn son of Mr and Mrs James Ashburn an Explorer Scout of Explorer Post 263 Batavia will receive the Eagle Award at a Batavia meeting on April 24. He joined Troop a Tenderfoot in 1945 earned five merit badges and rose to Life Scout in 1949 and also qualified for Explorer Woodsman.

Four Fire Calls In One Week For Newtonsville Fire Dept
Newtonsville fire department answered four calls in under a week. A grass fire on April 3 burned along a Tour-acre tract at Emil Heins trailer camp. Earlier, April 1, a ten acre grass fire on Anthony Meinicke property burned. March 29 a blaze spread from Mr Fletcher’s farm to an adjoining farm. March 27 winds fanned flames over three miles of fields with help from Williams burg Batavia and Owensville volunteers.

Three persons were injured in a three car crash on Route 28 at Guinea Road about 5 p m Sunday. Florence Garey 60 of Loveland suffered spinal injuries Hazel Combs had facial and scalp lacerations and left knee injuries Charles O Combs received injuries to his right The injured were taken to Lady of Mercy Hospital by Monroe ambulance. The Combs car driven by Charles struck Garey's car causing it to move into a third car occupied by Lloyd Ellington and his wife from Covington Kentucky Ellingtons were not injured Eugene Combs 17 rode in the Combs car The Combs family lives at H Jackson Street Sabina Ohio.

The district needs $3,000 to settle a government debt from an earlier school building project funded under a $60,000 bond. Batavia Coach Resigns to Head School History Dept
Batavia coach Ernie Havrilla resigned to become head of the Batavia High School history department at the school’s annual athletic banquet. During six years as coach his teams won county titles in 1946 1947 1948 and 1950 and league titles in 1946 and 1948 with a 107 36 first string record. LeRoy Smith coached the state track title, and Havrilla’s teams secured three county baseball crowns with 21 straight league wins, plus 18 athletics trophies and volleyball championships in 1947 48 and for girls in 1947. Havrilla a Ohio University graduate will receive a master’s degree at Xavier University in June 1950.
