Bunkoed by a Batavia swindler on a Cincinnati visit
Christopher Davidson, a resident near Fletcher in Miami County Ohio, was duped of 25 by a man posing as George Griffin’s son-in-law. The slick stranger gained Davidson’s trust with talk of Batavia and borrowed the money to pay for goods, then vanished toward Batavia on a train. Davidson, who does not read newspapers, was left believing his new acquaintance was honest.

Fire destroys Dr Brown house near Rethel
A dwelling one mile west of Rethel owned by Dr Brown burned Monday afternoon with contents. In the house were Mrs Brown his mother and an eight year old boy. Mrs Brown was recently confined and barely saved with her child and herself rescued by great effort. The fire's cause is unknown and the loss is uninsured.
