Clermont County eyes a busy season with rail and road projects across Ohio and West Virginia. The Ohio and Northwestern line, port improvements, expanded shops, and new towns at New Richmond and Isolo promise work for hundreds, boosting Batavia and surrounding trade as merchants report rising demand and prices.
A long list of names appears, including Edward Hall, James P uy Ephraim, Oliver arshall, and Franklin W. R. Richey, with many others from Goshen, Miami, Monroe, Ohio, and more. The fragment ends with Tate.
Propitious weather and large turnout marked the Clermont County Teachers Association meeting at Bethel last Saturday. The day featured lectures on tardiness prevention, school government methods, and the Geology of Clermont County, with songs, papers, and a roll call of attendees from Bethel, Williamsburg, Batavia, Amelia, Felicity, Milford, and Georgetown.
A Penetory meeting at Gest's school-house Union township set preliminary steps for a Batavia to Clough pike free turnpike. Louis Ludlow chaired with Gest as secretary as landowners along the route attended. Speeches by W W Perkins George Fishback Solomon Beckett spurred a twenty percent fundraising committee and a next meeting set for Saturday April 30th to decide the road fate.
Eliza Jones a maid in Mt Plegeh with George Lindsey gives birth to a male child. The infant’s body is found hidden in Mr Lindsey’s home wrapped in a dress. The skull shows a fracture and investigators consider possible accidental or deliberate harm. No arrest expected. inquiry by Squire C W Short noted.
All young married people are invited to call Dudebush's to inspect a large new furniture stack including bed room sets, dressers, dressing chests, dining pieces, rockers, chait and buffets, woodenware, stoneware, and various farm and household goods. Located in Goshen Ohio.
Clermont Normal School professors Cross Swing announce a six week Normal and Review Institute at Bethel beginning May 1. Tuition is six dollars for the term with boarding from two fifty to three dollars weekly. Correspondence to Cross in Moscow or Swing in Bethel invites teachers and high school scholars from the county to enroll.
Byron Butler aged eighteen from Lindale was fatally kicked by a horse after a day on the farm. He was found unconscious beside the stable, with a kick just above the neck and eye area. He died about seven o clock Monday morning. Interment was at Mt Pisgah cemetery Tuesday.
Samuel Simpson died at his Bantam home Friday age ninety one his funeral was Sunday. He came from Pennsylvania in 1818 with his father John Simpson and settled near Bethel. He married Elizabeth Griffith in 1828 and ran a Georgetown tannery with Jesse R. Grant. He worked hard and traded on flatboats to New Orleans for hides. He lived near Bethel until 1872 then moved to his final home. Seven of eight children survived him and General Grant visited him in 1883.

An eye witness praises two men who climbed to the garret amid smoke and flames to fetch water, saving the Wageman residence from total destruction while praising fellow workers who risked their lives on the roof.

Reports say Joseph Courtot will move his Cincinnati Courtot Cooperage to Batavia with a 25 worker factory on the old M. K. E. Shurch site bought for 1000. The plan, with Hannold and local figures backing, aims to place Batavia on two large factories within sixty days.
Joseph Dennis of Williamsburg with seven years in tobacco handling offers to accept orders for prizing crops. He has an improved press and will travel to Cler mont or Brown counties on call. W RANDALL ex Auditor Warren County endorses Anti-Dyspeptine after three years of dyspepsia and bilious attacks.
A violent man named Ollie ONeill from Ripley Ohio passed through town Tuesday morning threatening several residents. Marshal Garrison shadowed him until he departed. Funeral services were held for Mrs William McNealy of Hopedale, sister of Thomas Donaldson, at the family burying ground. Mrs Miles Webb a colored woman was buried Monday. New township officers were installed except Trustee F Bettle who is ill. Chief Phil Deitch and clerk Dick Johnson are in New Richmond this morning. Railroad workers moved here Tuesday and work on the road continues toward completion.
Easter services at Mt. Zion drew large crowds with a strong program. Soloists included Ella Moreton and Helen Fridman with Eugene Knox and Walter Moreton. essays by Marshall Moreton Kate Hulick and Mary Flanegan. Ed Hanley gave an effective oration. Notable attendees and visitors listed. several locals mentioned by name. The Ladies Aid hosted a successful community lunch raising funds for the new church. E A Knowles funeral and I O O F 68th anniversary preparations noted.
