Private James E. Malarkey of Milford was killed in action on Iwo Jima March 4. The 22 year old Marine had served in the Pacific since January 1944 and fought in the Marshalls Saipan and Tinian invasions. His death makes him the second Milford Marine and seventh Milford man to die in action.
