Clermont farmers consider using foreign labor or war prisoners to meet a labor shortage. Don Rehl urged farmers to contact the County Agricultural Agent in Batavia, Ohio, and place orders soon to secure imported workers if demand exists.
The article notes Floridians preparing to form a state government under the State Constitution. In mid May they planned to elect a Governor a U S Congressman and state legislative members. The legislature would convene in June to elect two U S Senators and various state officers. Spain had yet to apologize for firing on a U S steamer and Hawaii royalists formed a league seeking annexation to the United States.
The Batavia High School junior class presents A Night of Confusion next Friday April 6 at 8 P M in the High School Auditorium. Cast includes Barbara Hall Evelyn Rogers John Dial Clara Barbara Stagg John Ellsnall Joe Fehn Beatrice Kempf Rita Glancy Jean Marqua Nancy Kincaid Betty Zager Robi Nichols Bob Maddox and Jean Sinking.
Clermont County mobilizes for a national clothing drive to aid war torn regions. Civic groups coordinate in Amelia Batavia Bethel Milford Mt. Carmel Owensville Stonelick and others with local committees setting collection dates from April 1 to May 1. Usable garments especially infants clothing bedding shoes and remnants are requested.
Clermont County War Price and Rationing Board notes a 50 percent April tire quota versus March. With half the tires available, rations will favor war effort needs and community welfare. Ride sharing is urged as only about 50 percent efficient. Shortages stem from fabric, carbon black, and manpower, not synthetic rubber. Keep tires inflated, drive slowly, and repair or recap to avoid loss.
A joint installation of officers for the V F W and the Auxiliary will occur at Batavia Armory on Sunday April 15 with the main installation at 1 PM and joint installation at 2 30 PM. Ohio plans a house to house canvass by 1.5 million students starting April 2 to secure pledges for extra War Bonds. The drive aims to learn expected totals and inform residents of War Bond importance with a goal of 403 million dollars for individual purchases.
Frank Lester announces Lake O The Woods on Concord road north of Bethel will open next Sunday. He bought the site last Fall and built rustic buildings to create a club like atmosphere. The lake will be stocked with bass and catfish shipped from Lake Erie.
Professor MacMurray known as the Musical Wizard will appear at Batavia U B Revival Services on April 14 and 21. Revival services run from April 8 to 22 with Reverend Williams leading all evenings except Saturdays when MacMurray conducts the musical program.

Pvt. Walter E. Shrope, 20, of Williamsburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Shrope, is reported a prisoner of war in Germany after earlier being listed as missing since November 8. He is the husband of Druilla Shrope.
Paul Hopping spoke at the Owensville Community Club March meeting at the School House. He discussed Parents' Responsibilities to parents while children were supervised in the auditorium by Ralph Lemon and high school students. Members urged book donations for the high school library.
The Cler mont County Tuberculosis and Health Ass n will hold its annual meeting in the Court House conference room next Wednesday at 8 P M All members and friends are urged to attend The election of officers plans for the coming year and report of the Seal Sale will be made at this meeting
Batavia Woman's Club hosts an April 12 Bible Day featuring talks by Mrs. Ivy Nash on The Case of Christianity and Mrs. Charles Daugherty on Religion of the Child. Hostess is Mrs. John Friend.
Oscar Sontag secretary of Masonic Lodge No 102 announced an inspection for April 13. Third degree work will be exemplified by Felicity Lodge.
On April 10 Clermont Grange No. 377 of Newtonsville will present the third and fourth degrees to their class of candidates. An inspection of one degree is also planned. All Grangers are invited and lunch will be served.
Loveland area case ends in a five hour trial with Frank Kirk, 49, pleading guilty to second degree murder of his stepdaughter Mrs Louise Adkins. Judge Harry Britton and two associates impose a life sentence after a negotiated plea. Prosecution and defense reached agreement during recess.
Board of Directors meeting held March 29 at Feldman’s Poultry Farm. New members admitted. Officers elected to serve until the first annual meeting: Harold Koker president, Virgil Hamilton vice president, Verle Doty secretary, Robert R. Caldwell treasurer. Other board members include Mrs. George Johnson, Vawter Irwin, and Grant Maddox.
Following officer election the Board authorized buying and remodeling the old car barn at Milford Route 50 near the co op line. Don Florea sold the building and a committee of Virgil Hamilton Robert R Caldwell and Carl R Bibbee will negotiate transfer details. A remodeling committee of Don Florea George Schafer W H Ford with Alfred Van Wagenen and D D Meyer poultry specialists will plan interior work. The Board will interview and hire a manager on April 4 at Feldmans Poultry Farm. Work to begin soon with operation hoped to start June 1.
A contest to secure a trade name for the eggs handled by the organization remains open to entrants. Submit entries on a paper with name and address and send to the County Agent in the relevant county. Eligible participants include residents of southwestern Ohio, southeastern Indiana, and northern Kentucky.
Milford area sets a war fund record by contributing 3953.12 to the Red Cross drive surpassing a 2650 quota for Milford Township. Northern half already contributed 1400 giving Clermont County a total 5353.12 and above the 5300 goal. Leaders credit over 100 volunteers and name Arthur L. Daughters as general chairman and other coordinators from business, residential, clubs, churches, and schools.
Private James E. Malarkey of Milford was killed in action on Iwo Jima March 4. The 22 year old Marine had served in the Pacific since January 1944 and fought in the Marshalls Saipan and Tinian invasions. His death makes him the second Milford Marine and seventh Milford man to die in action.
