Fat infants shed pounds by age nine, Berkeley study finds
Researchers tracked 450 babies through age 9 to test whether overweight infants stay fat. The team led by Leona R. Shapiro found most obese infants thinned out naturally and that 9 year olds who are fat were not fat as infants. The study noted increased exercise linked to lower obesity but could not confirm that higher food intake predicts fatness.
