Ramps at I-90 State Route 57 Cloverleaf Near Elyria Near Complete

A state highway official said the cloverleaf interchange at Interstate 90 and State Route 57 north of Elyria will be completely operative by Monday morning. Crews are installing new signs and removing concrete in the temporary left turn lanes.

Roadwork opens I 90 cloverleaf easing routes

State highway officials announce Monday opening of the I 90 cloverleaf that reroutes traffic from Rt 57 and Rt 37 onto I 90 reducing turns and eliminating red lights between Midway Mall and Rt 17. Finishing work continues to complete the Avon segment from Rt 57 to Rt 612 by Oct. 31 as planned.

Violence erupts after Columbia rally protests

About 200 demonstrators linked to Students for a Democratic Society gathered at Columbia University for a Lumumba memorial and marched toward the Episcopal Cathedral of St John the Divine to protest eviction of elderly residents. Police halted the march a block from the cathedral. four others were arrested, a man was injured breaking a library window, and order was restored on campus.

Vermilion man charged in printing counterfeit $20 bills

Vermilion resident Robert L. Horvath, 37, jailed in Cuyahoga County on charges linked to printing and distributing thousands of counterfeit $20 bills believed produced in his basement workshop. Evidence included a printing press and other equipment found in his home.

California man crashes into three new cars in Amherst

William E. Kubichke of Hayward California plowed into three 1969 model cars in the Sliman's Sales and Service lot on Route 58 at 3 37 a m. He suffered a fractured nose and was treated at St Joseph's Hospital. He pleaded no contest to reckless operation and was fined 50 dollars. His car, valued at 31000, was a total loss. Damage to poles and lines set at 150 dollars.

French Creek Council adopts $4.6 million project

Avon mayor Nicholas Mitock led the French Creek Council of Governments as it adopted a 16 million sewer treatment plant and interceptor lines plan for Avon Sheffield and North Ridgeville. Johnson and Anderson Inc. will design the plant while a finance committee was named and a grant request filed. Plans must be submitted by Oct 1, 1969 to secure federal aid.
