Elyria firemen responded three times during the weekend to grass fires. Two fires occurred Saturday afternoon and one Sunday afternoon. The first blaze burned about five square feet on a vacant Eleventh Street lot, blamed on children with matches and put out by neighbors before fire crews arrived. A second fire Saturday at the rear of 114 Euclid Avenue covered about a half acre but caused no property damage, starting from a bonfire. The Sunday fire scorched four vacant city lots at Fuller Road and Middle Avenue, also from a bonfire.
Briefs are due September 28 in the reckless driving case against Leo Jackson who today filed a plea in abatement in police court here claiming the grand jury considered the case and returned no indictment. Jackson was arrested on a warrant sworn by Josephine Martin after a traffic accident on East Avenue near Fifth Street on August 20, 1938.
