Retention basin approval lands for West Ridge estate plans
Preliminary plans for West Ridge Estate phase four were rejected for drainage concerns but approved after a promise to build a retention basin to manage storm water. The town zoning board also denied a rezoning to MR-3 and B-1a along West Ridge Road citing spot zoning and nearby commercial areas. Fairview assault case ends with split jury
The trial of George Hronis, 20, of Fairview Park, ended with a hung jury after he faced felonious assault charges. Police officer Thomas E. Weston testified that a pursuit through Fairview Park, Westlake, and North Ridgeville on April 28 ended on Bayberry Circle, where Weston says Hronis tried to drive at him. Hronis admitted the chase but denied aiming to injure the officer. Judge Mikus dismissed the jury and gave the state 14 days to seek a new trial.

Wally Kinnan, 59, former WKYC TV meteorologist, will return to air at WTSP TV in St. Petersburg, Florida next month after a year away. He spent 12 years at WKYC before it did not renew his option last September and he now works as an industrial relations specialist with Ridge Tool in Elyria. Kinnan began TV in 1951 in Oklahoma City and also worked in Philadelphia before joining Cleveland’s WKYC in 1985.

Five Die in Bellevue Collision Near Route Intersections
Five persons were killed and three seriously hurt in a two car crash four miles south of Bellevue late Thursday night. Victims include William James 79 and Mrs Carolyn Gahagan 55 of Sandusky Raymond Krebs 59 and Edith Krebs 43 of Sandusky Mrs Rose Krebs 54 of Huron. survivors Ladonna Dysard 46 of Republic Arthur Gahagan 53 of Sandusky and Harvey Krebs 58 of Huron were listed in stable condition or fair condition as the crash was investigated by the Norwalk Patrol. The Dysard car hit the Krebs station wagon broadside at Rt 547 and Rt 4 intersection, sending the Krebs car upside down.

Cyclist Injured In Turnpike Motorcycle Crash
A 25 year old Cleveland man, William J. McCartney, 3057 E Derbyshire Road, was listed in serious condition in the ICU at the Medical College of Toledo after a Thursday morning motorcycle crash on the Ohio Turnpike near the Rt 250 interchange. He apparently lost control, went off the road and struck a guard rail. He was wearing a helmet, the highway patrol said.
