Off-Duty Elyria Officers at Midway Mall Under Question
The issue centers on whether off duty Elyria policemen working as security at Midway Mall count as private investigators under Ohio law. Conflicting interpretations say they may be private contractors or employees, with liability for injuries or false arrests unclear. Mall management and city officials dispute who bears responsibility, while officers worry about insurance and licensing requirements.
