Airliner Crash In Fog Kills 28 Man

A fog bound crash on Route 10 near Oberlin killed Clarence A. Blakeley, 35, of Cleveland, when his 1935 Dodge failed to stop at an intersection and was struck by a westbound truck driven by George Teterich. Blakeley, pinned in the car, suffered multiple fractures and a fractured skull, and died at 4:57 a.m. Graybar Electric district sales manager, he leaves a wife Hazel and a son Bruce, plus his parents and a sister. He had worked 15 years for the firm. The driver of the following truck, Charles Gasper of Detroit, said the car did not stop. deputies confirmed no chance to avoid impact. The body was taken to Cowling-Sedgeman Funeral Home in Oberlin.

General 20 Percent Cut In County Relief Payments

County Welfare Director C C Waterhouse announced a 20 percent general cut in relief allowances effective Oct 1 to conserve dwindling funds until a state allotment arrives in February. Officials estimated the reduction would stretch funds from current expenditures of about $18 000 per month, with 437 relief cases on the rolls.

In Panmunjom, the Joint Military Armistice Commission met but did not report on over 900 missing American servicemen. Maj. Gen. Blackshear M. Bryan sought news about the missing list of more than 3,000 Allied personnel, handed to the Reds earlier, but no mention was made. The session was called a humdrum affair with minor issues. Bryan warned for accountability and arranged press coverage in the demilitarized zone for neutral Indian guards and 100 correspondents from each side. Elyria officials pressed for four complete sets of Turnpike plans and copies of studies aligning with the Elyna Master Plan. A telegram from Robert B. Mutiny by German police soldiers crushed by Russians in Germany

Berlin reports a mutiny by 2,000 Soviet Zone police soldiers at Pinnov Barracks near Angermünde was suppressed by seven Soviet tanks and Russian troops. Henry Young alias James Martin, 30, of Wilbur Street, held in county jail for Virginia authorities after deputies arrested him on a Martinsville Va warrant charging theft of a 1948 Studebaker. Milk Price Boost Effective Today

Lorain County Milk Dealers Association members raised milk prices by one cent per quart effective today. Association secretary Harry H. Kimmel said the increase was approved at a Tuesday meeting and matches a Cleveland area rise due to supply shortages from hot weather reducing production. Cpl Norris Repatriated From Far East Returns to Ohio

Cpl Alvi D Norris son of Mr and Mrs George Norris Brunswick is slated to arrive in San Francisco aboard the Gen William M Black carrying 428 repatriated prisoners from the Far East. He is Elyria area s only POW to be released in Operation Big Switch. Polio Victim Sandra Burr Returns Home

Sandra Burr, daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Burr of 159 Caroline Avenue, returned to Elyria from an eight day stay at City Hospital Cleveland where she was treated after a Labor Day polio infection. She is at Gates Hospital for continued therapy with both legs and one shoulder affected. The Burrs two other children had gamma globulin shots and were released from quarantine.

In Somerset Pennsylvania an old postal card mailed by Maud Thomas of Lorain Ohio to her brother Harry J Hill in Shanksville was delivered to his widow Effie Hill Fox this week. Hill died 33 years ago.

Plane crashes into Albany radio tower killing all aboard

An American Airlines Convair en route from Boston to Chicago crashed near Albany Airport after striking a 365 foot radio tower. All 28 passengers and crew perished. The craft circled in overcast skies and plummeted into a cornfield near Colonie. National and airline officials identified many aboard including Captain James W. Stentz and First Officer William J.
