Proposed Apple Checkoff Plan Gets Industry Backing
A two cent per bushel checkoff on market apples and two cents per hundredweight on processing apples was approved at a Columbus hearing. Ohio Director John Stackhouse said funds would back market development and health oriented promotional material from the American Apple Institute. Only growers with 500 bearing trees can vote or be assessed. Chairman Mitchell Lynd said growers aim to approve the proposal by late September.
