Three Elyria men foresee rapid growth for Wheatex cereal
Wheatex Packing Company at 602 Lodi Street prepares for a busy fall and winter season with new equipment to run several thousand packages daily. Founders Walker, H. A. Peabody, and H. N. A. Barnhart bring sales, milling, and merchandising experience. After a six month R and D period, Wheatex hit Elyria stores March 20 and has since expanded to Lorain County grocers and other towns. Distributors have shown strong interest across two thirds of Ohio as demand grows. The cereal combines wheat oats yeast and corn with dehydrated yeast boosting vitamins B and G, and producers claim health value. Bow is also making pane bread flour and corn meal with waste reduction. Plant installation nears completion and buyers increasingly return for more.
