Two Railroad Detectives Are Slain
Two Michigan Central railroad detectives Walter Butt and Arthur Mendle were shot and killed in South Bend Indiana during a gun battle with a group of men. The assailant was wounded and captured by another detective. Pierce the pool room operator and prizefight manager said he exchanged shots in self defense as detectives came to his home seeking a neighbor. Pierce was wounded in the hand.
